TIL that putting dry tea bags in smelly shoes or gym bags will absorb the unpleasant odor by MrsPibbin todayilearned

[–]zulavos 0 points1 point ago

The pleasing odour's half the point.

There are clearly several "certainties" held by each individual e.g. one's politics, religion, sexual orientation, that cannot be altered by argument. Why do people insist on wasting time on these things? by zulavosin AskReddit

[–]zulavos[S] 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for your reply. I am in fact a farmer (clue in username) who works from dawn to dusk. However I am on leave at the moment and was driving and talking to my wife about the very nature of epiphanies and the difficulties involved with changes in one's compass. If an epiphany occurs in a crowded hall in front of a talented orator perhaps one should treat it with scepticism. If a sea change happens over time through contemplative thought, it may be accepted more readily. I slipped in the sexual orientation thing because a friend of mine had that very damascus experience. He separated from his wife but they remain close and all other aspects of his life are unchanged. I do despair when people talk religion or politics and cannot see that arguments cannot shake such fundamental axes of one's frame of reference. Thank you

Ah yes. I was thinking of the Warsaw Uprising and subsequent destruction of the city in Aug Sep 1944.

I agree with the content and tone of your reply. If I have to answer that question one more time some Canadian is going to feel the full wrath of my South African sarcasm.

IPL-related posts are clogging up this subreddit. There's no room for cricket any more. I suggest someone makes a new subreddit for the IPL. by Aethelstanin Cricket

[–]zulavos 3 points4 points ago

I just don't understand this attitude. T20 is cricket. It's just a ODI without the boring middle overs. Test matches are great but this is different. You can like both.

Besides sweeping landscape photos, what other shots do you use your wide-angle lens for? by mck77in photography

[–]zulavos 1 point2 points ago

Wide angle is the lens. Best for reportage, it is intimate, gives a sense of involvement. At weddings, it's the lens for the throwing of the garter / bouquet. Sometimes great for kids. I've seen shots where the photog is lying on the ground with the kids running past.

I boycott anything related to the IPL - but did you know that the KKR pays more in salaries than the NY Knicks? by joker_of_the_deckin Cricket

[–]zulavos 2 points3 points ago

English people can boycott the IPL because their players were largely excluded. That being said, I laugh at anyone who doesn't watch it for some "principle" or other.

Protester at a US counter-terrorism speech is dragged away as she speaks out on behalf of the innocent victims of US drone strikes including American citizens. by plajjerin worldpolitics

[–]zulavos 5 points6 points ago

Drone attacks are pure, concentrated and distilled evil. The woman disrupted a speech to put this point across. You people with your "How rude" sensibilities should read a little about the bombing of Dresden to understand the utter helplessness of civilians in the face of bombs. They could not surrender. No white flag could save them. All they could do is wait in terror for the inevitable.

Hanging these people like that must have been part of the healing process for the Italians and deflected much of the blame for the war away from the Italian people. Also a very Italian way of doing things.

South Africa president pardons 35,000 offenders to ease prison overcrowding by igeldardin southafrica

[–]zulavos 1 point2 points ago

On the surface it seems a disastrous decision but I support it. Keep the violent criminals in, and assess the rest on a case by case basis. Overcrowded prison conditions are unacceptable.

Have a look at www.eshowe.com Eshowe is in the heart of Zululand, near the game reserves, close to the best dive sites, there are fantastic people at Zululand Backpackers who do amazing work with the local aids orphans. It is an exciting centre with really great people. Chill there for a while and decode your next move. Good luck.
