TROPHY CASE

Reddit, my friends call me a scumbag because I automate my work when I was hired to do it manually. Am I? by CS-NLin AskReddit

[–]zeptillian 0 points1 point ago

I did almost the exact same thing at a place I worked doing data entry. This was at a company where they were going through this six sigma program and had a policy that said if you can save the company money they would pay you 20% of the cost savings. I had already implemented my automation and could actually prove the hours being saved each day. I was eventually fired for being 5 minutes late. My manager had someone else copy what I did so they could take credit for it.

If you automate stuff at work, your company owns the automation work you did and doesn't have to pay you for it. No company will pay for what they already own, so don't expect to get paid. Your mistake was making it too good. You will surely get caught and most likely you and all of your coworkers will be fired. Congratulations!

Correction, you beat the system AND your coworkers.

You are taking money out of their pockets to put in yours. If you are told to do this process manually and you are making this money by being the one person to break the rules then yes, it is immoral. It would be like cheating in a game. If you are asked to play a game and given certain rules to follow then breaking them to your advantage is definitely wrong. If it's left to your discretion how you get the work done then it's acceptable.

You might want to change your password while you're at it since they just lost 55,000 passwords due to incompetence. I say incompetence because there is no good reason for them to store your password at all. They should hash it and store the hash like any competent web service would. That way if they are compromised all they have is a list of hashes from which the attackers cannot figure out the actual passwords. But then I guess without a huge list of usernames and passwords, what would their company be worth?

FCC Asked to Investigate Data Caps:"It is simply inexcusable that the FCC has not even seen fit to ask wireless and landline carriers to explain why those caps are necessary, how they are set and how consumers are affected by them." by pardonmyfrantonin technology

[–]zeptillian -2 points-1 points ago

There isn't even a theoretical unlimited quantity of data available. Maximum bitrate x number of seconds per billing cycle is the theoretical maximum of data one could download utilizing 100% network capacity.

What they are selling you is access to this data network. Everyone knows it has a certain capacity and that you should only expect performance up to a certain point. But if the product is access to this network, which they are advertising as unlimited, and they clearly limit access to the network then they are deliberately being dishonest.

tl;dr The phone carriers use the term unlimited like teens use the term literally, the exact opposite of it's definition.

So what you're saying is they don't limit the amount, they limit the speed.

Did you notice the word limit there as it applies to the data plans being advertised as unlimited? See the contradiction?

Is it wrong for a guy to use coupons in a date? by KantLemonin AskReddit

OP used the term girlfriend which I took to mean more serious than if he had said date.

[–]zeptillian -1 points0 points ago

The first date is all about making a good first impression. The association of coupons with cheapness is undeniable, so they should be avoided. The whole sexist aspect is that the date associates spending money with worthiness. It's not that your date wants you to throw money away, but spending money means you care.

You could also use coupons to weed out gold diggers and shallow people with bad financial habits. It depends on what your goals are.

What do I tell my son? He beat the living shit out of two girls in his class. by [deleted]in AskReddit

In Jr. High I started riding my bike to school because it was unsafe for me to take the bus. I was tortured on a daily basis and the bus driver never did anything to stop it. The teachers never helped. If I didn't learn to stand up for myself I probably would have eventually killed myself or someone else.

Yes I would tell the kid something like come to me first. If you had done that then everyone would have gotten hurt less. Stand up for yourself and use force when necessary to protect yourself but if you are the one that escalates the violence it could have very bad consequences.

So being a total pussy is enlightened? If you are a known to be a tattletale then you will be worse off than if you punch someone.

You are right about responding to bullying with pity. The person who is picked on will pity themselves and be a victim their whole life if they never learn to stand up for their self.

[–]zeptillian 0 points1 point ago

Is it just a bad name or is it years of mental torture? Depends on whether you are on the receiving end. Would ignoring the abuse until it builds up so much that the kid tries to kill themselves be a better solution?

Yes, teach your kid that they can ignore a problem away. Maybe you should suggest praying as s solution too?

Yes he did ask the teacher for help. His mistake was not telling his parents. This is an opportunity to teach that if you need help, you talk to Mom and Dad.

[–]zeptillian 1 point2 points ago

If the teacher had been told several times about the bullying and had not done anything about it then what does that tell you? That is the root cause here. If the teacher did their job then the kid never would have been tortured to the point where they snapped. OP should talk to the teacher find out why they let this happen and make sure you are confident that they will not let this happen again.

In California the courts impose a penalty assessment fee of 110% of the original fine if you go to court and lose. So you're basically taking a double or nothing shot when you contest anything here.

That's nice of them to give you a ride after your accident. I just got yelled at by them because I expresses some uncertainty in recalling every detail of an accident where someone ran a red light and hit me. I had a huge laceration across my chest from the seatbelt and felt like I was just punched in the chest by a ton of bricks, so I was winded and felt like I was in shock.

Have you ever tried contacting the ACLU? They are busy.

I tried to see if they were interested in helping my fight my city where they only give out parking tickets in poorer neighborhoods even though what they are ticketing for applies city wide. The information is all there and it should be a simple matter of statistical analysis to prove that there is indeed very obvious discrimination in ticketing, but they said they didn't have the resources available.

The people who give free legal help are interested in making the most impact so if your abuse is run of the mill, then you most likely will not find anyone to help you.

Isn't it a lot cheaper to live at home and go to community college? Or maybe get a job somewhere that can help you pay for school and take a year or two off to see if you could afford it first?
