Same thing everybody else has said. Yes, you can do it. Yes, it will smoke fine-- it will actually add a bit of cherry flavor. Yes, you should season the wood before you carve it.

Here's one I made. It's much easier to carve than briar, being softer. And the looser grain might allow the tobacco juice to escape to the surface, as you can see in the last picture, which is interesting.

Too be fair, a lot of this trade was stuff I had on hand after an inventory that I didn't want any more. I picked up the 5100 and Frog Morton, and considered that my trade. The rest, I just threw in, told him I didn't really know what it was (all old bulk) and he could smoke it or throw it away.

That sounds kind of bad-- the tobacco was in good shape, but I couldn't ID it on tobaccoreviews.com...and I have a lot of stuff that I DO know and want to smoke, so I wasn't going to ever go back and finish these. The monthly trade to a much newer smoker seemed like a great way to deal with it. All of these are at least 5 years old, most are probably closer to 7-9. So, they're aged, too!

Unfortunately, my next trade will be back closer to around the 2 oz. minimum...
