TROPHY CASE

Girls, don't grow up so fast! (rant/story) by DJGloTrykin TwoXChromosomes

[–]xthe0wl 1 point2 points ago

I just bought my daughter's 5th grade graduation dress. An potato-sack style sundress in a bright floral print from Old Navy, $34, on clearance for $11. Cute enough for her to feel dressed-up, but casual enough that she can wear it over the summer just-because.

Just posted this. I wonder what reaction I'll get. by fawowowin atheism

Yep. This is exactly what my view on abortion has aways been.

I have it in my Netflix Instant Cue. Haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

Not particularly.

  • The head is a styrofoam ball with a mouth cut out.

  • The entire thing is covered in stretchy fleece at hot glued (that was the hardest part--back of head isn't smooth, because I knew it would be covered in the hair piece.)

  • I crocheted the hair piece, adding orange pipe cleaners into the braid strands for stiffness.

  • Googly eyes; eyelashes from the make-up aisle

  • body is rolled up receiving blankets

  • arms and legs are rolled up hand towels, covered in fleece

  • mouth is black and red felt

  • dress was newborn overalls, cut off

  • patches are a red bandana, cut and ironed on with patch stuff

  • socks and shoes (infant sizes)

  • nose was a wooden knob, covered in fleece (hard part=getting it smooth)

  • hands were bits of wadded up extra material, and a sliver of extra styrofoam from the mouth cut out, covered in stretchy fleece. (also hard to make look right, and the part I'm least happy with).

Lots and lots of hot glue.

Secular preschools in the downtown or South-side area? by juanie212in indianapolis

[–]xthe0wl 0 points1 point ago

LaPetite is great for kids that are already in need of all day daycare. The problem I've had is finding a secular stand-alone preschool program. Something that runs half days, 2-3 days a week. That's the way all the church-run preschools operate, but everyone else seems to be more "daycare" with a bit of learning thrown in. As a stay-at-home mom, I don't need full time daycare...just a drop-in preschool program.

The Goddard School ≠ affordable.

Ha ha ha ha! They don't exist. We live in fucking Indiana.

But seriously, I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread. I never put my older kids in preschool because I truly could not find any that are both affordable and secular. My 3yo would really love preschool though; he wants to be BIG like his older siblings.

VERY light. My foot was my hardest-to-heal tattoo. It was likely infected. Took way too long to heal. Red and puffy and painful for much longer than it should have been. But it was only my second tat. Looking back, I put way too much A&D on it. Now, I use a thin layer of a heavier ointment (like A&D) for the first 24-48 hours, and then just apply Curel one or twice a day for a week or two.

Deep fried what? by i12bursin WTF

[–]xthe0wl 0 points1 point ago

I tried this last year at the Indiana State Fair. It was basically a fried cinnamon donut/biscuit type thing with a melted butter center. There were four in the little paper serving tray. My BFF and I got it just to try the new ridiculous State Fair Food of the year. We both ate part of one, and had to throw the rest away. We just couldn't eat it. It wasn't bad, just way too much. Too much sugar. Too much grease. Too much heart attack.

Teen suspended from school for wearing a shirt with the slogan: "Life is Wasted Without Jesus" by malarkianin atheism

[–]xthe0wl 2 points3 points ago

My kid got suspended earlier this year for having jeans with a rip in the knee. It pissed me off. But there is a dress code. Deal with it.

I just don't see that this (the original story/link) is anything more than a self-important teenager trying to get away with breaking the rules, under the guise of "its my religion". This would be my opinion regardless of whether he was Christian or atheist.

Are you responding to me? I never said I disagreed with the message on his shirt. I was merely pointing out that he wasn't suspended simply for wearing a particular shirt. He was suspended for continuing to break a rule after repeated warnings.

One of my favorite quotes. I just don't think it applies here.

Upvotes for the much better article. The original link was crap.

But she said he has repeatedly refused to comply, so the issue is one of defiance, not religious freedom of expression. “There has been a long period of meeting, counselling, explaining, offering support, offering alternatives, before we ever get to the point of disciplinary action.”

Seven times. He was told not to wear it. He continued to come to school wearing it. Its not like he just wore it once and was suspended. Or wore it again and forgot. He was intentionally wearing it even thought the school told him not to.

Exactly. I discovered a Back-to-the-Future decked out Delorian last year. Had to buy two. One for the kids, and one for me.

Not really a dinner place, but 3 Sisters Cafe has amazing food. And its a unique atmosphere. Husband and I go there occasionally for lunchtime dates. Never disappointed.

They're 5th graders. And we cheated a bit by printing out the characters. But never underestimate the power of Girl Scouts, Silly Scent Markers, and a glue sticks. They had a blast cheering last year, and really wanted to do it again this year.
