Decided to go for the HTC One X International, will it work on AT&Ts network? by hawk1410in Android

[–]xenetic 0 points1 point ago

Outside of YouTube clips, 3G always struggles with video so LTE would be nice for that. Also, I like to tether my phone to my laptop so more speed is nice for full sized/image heavy websites that I wouldn't bother with on a small screen

Diablo III sells 6.3 million Life-To-Date, 3.5 million In First 24 hours by mehgandavidin Games

[–]xenetic 8 points9 points ago

The one main gripe I have with always online is that even with the most consistent and server internet + servers there will be spikes in latency. Not everyone has the luxury of having a dedicated line all to themselves (some of us have to share with people who torrent) .

I havenet played hardcore mode, but losing all of your progress because the Internet flakes out would suck. Since hardcore mode is seperate from all other parts of the game and doesn't share chest or use auction house, I think they should have disabled always online requirements there

If I get Diablo 3, I will play solo most likely. Is that worth it? by marioIsDeadin Games

[–]xenetic 1 point2 points ago

How can you say that Blizzard got a free pass when there was a ton of outcry about the botched server issues at launch and people still upset about the always online connection because the internet and servers aren't %100 stable?

Most people who got the game understand why they use the always online DRM (anti piracy and anti cheating) but begrudgingly accept it because at the end of the day they want to play the game

CD Projekt – Pirated games are not lost sales, DRM is “a lot” for legitimate users to put up with by zakislamin Games

[–]xenetic 2 points3 points ago

I think the poster before you was implying don't just blindly give them money because they're nice. Buy products if it's something you actually want

I'm sure the Witcher games are high quality, but they're just not the type of game that interest me so I'm not going to buy them

Any new flagship smartphones later this year? by calle957in Android

[–]xenetic 1 point2 points ago

Most flagship phones get released in the spring/summer time, so i would feel confident buying something like a HTC One X or Galaxy S3.

And then nexus phones come out sometime in winter. If you care about having the best hardware specs, a nexus phone may not be for you because historically they've never really had the top of the line SoC.

But IMO anything over a month is too long to hold out on for any technology. Sure specs will get better, but even an "old" phone will function just as well and run 98% of apps because developers have to code for the most common denominator

A couple of episodes or one movie can easily be 3 gigs in HD. It's 2012 and I only watch stuff in 720p or higher, I don't want to hold back on quality

I can't be the only one who absolutely despises Blizzard, can I? by Anon2971in Games

[–]xenetic 0 points1 point ago

The only reason I would want LAN support is if/when in the distant future I want to play Diablo 3 for old times sake and Blizzard decides that it's not worth the money to keep the old game servers running and would rather have you playing their new active game.

And even with a sufficiently stable connection, I'm still noticing random hiccups in gameplay due to latency

Blizzard’s Mobile Gaming Mistake by blueowlfeathersin Android

[–]xenetic 3 points4 points ago

Somehow I think they'll be fine. SC2 is more popular then ever and Heart of the Swarm will give it a nice boost. Diablo 3 is going to be huge and they'll probably make a decent amount of money with the in-game auction house. WoW is declining in popularity but still the most popular and probably most profitable MMORPG by a long shot.

They to do well despite PC/"hardcore" gaming dying for years. Mobile gaming is rapidly growing, but I bet most people who only play games on their phones never really played PC or traditional console games anyway so I doubt they're really taking away any marketshare

Mobile games tend to go in fads, one month a game may be very popular be it can just as easily get forgotten and surpassed by the next big thing. Plus knowing how Blizzard works, by the time they finish a game several new generations of phones would have came out

Dragon Dogma producer: "... we don't have any plans to release a PC version - it's just a bit difficult with the whole pawn system and the borrowing and lending" by MaximKatin Games

[–]xenetic 2 points3 points ago

Even with bad ports, PC version often comes out on top in the end anyway.

GTA4 with iCEnahncer is amazing

Dark Souls has framerate issues in a fair number of parts

Dragon's Dogma's demo has similar problems to Dark Souls, although it might just be an unoptimized demo. I personally like playing open world type rpgs (Fallout 3, Skyrim, etc...) on PC for the controls and mods, so I'll be skipping out on Dragon's Dogma even though I have a PS3

Windows 8 drops DVD playback, only available with paid Media Center upgrade | The Verge by DoNotHateMein TechNewsToday

[–]xenetic 2 points3 points ago

As far as upgrades go, I think you could mostly say the same about other computer systems. The vast majority of people just buy a machine (especially laptops) and keep it for a few years before eventually getting a whole new one. Hopefully they'de have a good enough graphics chip inside (this is improving with Intels Sandy+Ivy Bridge) to run games on minimal settings if they're interested in PC gaming anyway

There's a bunch of other reasons too. A lot of games are made with Direct X and that's never coming to macs.

Then there's the fact that drivers simply aren't as optimized as well on OSX. The same games that run on windows are pretty much guaranteed to have better performance. Valve kind of embarrassed Apple into improving their graphics drivers specifically, but not much has really changed as far as I know.

2012/whenever stream comes out on linux is still not going to be the year of desktop linux.

Steam is on Mac, but outside of Valve's own games there isn't that big of a selection, I don't see that changing much with Linux.

Besides that, there's still going to be some very important software missing with no real alternatives (Adobe Creative Suite)

Most people will eventually end up with Windows 8 if/when they get a new computer because hardly anyone actually upgrades their OS

lots of built in flash AND a micro SD slot makes me want to get this over the One X. I simply can't live with only 16gb (AT&T version).

Maybe the screen will be good enough that I don't care/stop paying attention to how meh the industrial design looks

U.S. variant of Samsung Galaxy S III will feature dual-core CPU by captain_dribblezin Android

[–]xenetic 2 points3 points ago

I don't get why people are so upset about this, The S4 is a beast chip as is that often beats other quad core chips.

More cores doesn't automatically mean better performance (especially if the new Exynos is still based on Arm A9)
