What's it like crossing the border, does it take a long time when you're going over on a bus?

What are some good, cheap gyms in Portland? by roborollerin Portland

[–]x_____________ 2 points3 points ago

There are city community centers around town that have gyms. It only costs a couple dollars per visit or you can get 20 visit pass for a reduced rate. They don't have any contracts or sales people like a normal gym which is nice.

Here is a list of some of them: http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/finder/index.cfm?ShowResults=yes&AmenityTypeID=21

Hiked up to Crater Rock on Mt. Hood this morning; snowboarded down. (x-post from campingandhiking) by aaronkzin Portland

I would like to get into this as well. I've been reading around over the last few months and it seems like a quadcopter type setup is cheaper and better for an amateur to get into aerial photography. I don't think the cheaper beginner type rc-helis are actually able to lift a camera (especially a dslr), but less expensive quadcopters can.

Here is a 8 part video series on how to build your own I have called around to some of the local hobby shops and none of them seem to carry the proper parts, so you would most likely have to order everything.

Best 2nd hand stores in the city? by BobNobin Portland

Better Bargains in NE is pretty good, they seem to have some of the best prices and always have some kind of tag sale.

Skydiving? by easybin Portland

[–]x_____________ 0 points1 point ago

There are 2 skydiving places about 45 minutes from Portland. "Skydive Oregon" which has been mentioned and "Skydive Eagle Creek". Both are about the same price for a tandem jump. Eagle Creek is a lot smaller of an operation, but more likely to be flexible with scheduling and groups.

PNCA student creates mobile houses for homeless - will the plan succeed? by idahosportugalin Portland

No. This is not a new idea. One I saw a few years ago was trashed by a bunch of drunk dudes.

That is a guy who built his own bike trailer to live out of, this is about someone wanting to give out small push trailers for free to people who may need them, 2 different things.

Here is more info on that guy and his trailer: http://bikeportland.org/2006/11/10/motorhome-bike-makes-portland-appearance-2516

A DIY "vending machine" that "vends" your neighbors' hopes and dreams for the future, written on paper that grows into wildflowers. by Sambersandin Portland

[–]x_____________ 1 point2 points ago

I stopped by this earlier today, unfortunately the rain had gotten to it. I put in a piece of paper and turned the knob, but it felt all squishy and in the dispenser part there was a single soaked card laying there with the corner coming off. I read it and buried it a few blocks away in a sidewalk planter.

39$ concealed carry classes? by iloveblargin Portland

It's a legitimate business http://bit.ly/GWniM4 he's probably out marketing his business with signs at a relatively low price to get people in, network and sell more services in the future.

Red Flag number one: (503) 890-1515

I don't see what's wrong with a cell number. I know lots of businesses that use cell phones as their primary number. Cell phones offer voicemail, what more does a land line really offer?

Some pictures from the Willamette River the other night by x_____________in Portland

That was taken pretty late, sometime after midnight when it tends to be fairly calm this time of year. If it has been raining a lot or it's late spring during runoff the water might be rough and during the summer at night it can get pretty windy and choppy. It will also be smoother during the low tide points throughout the day: http://www.protides.com/oregon/2181/

PDX cyclists, where's a good place to buy rain pants *besides* REI? by therealscroddin Portland

[–]x_____________ 1 point2 points ago

Andy & Bax Sporting Goods has a pretty good selection. The place is kind of mix between an Army Surplus and Next Adventure, but without the expensive name brands, it's actually just a couple blocks from Next Adventure.
