[Fan comes up with an alternative story for Act 2 and 3](/spoiler) by Cure2in Diablo

[–]wrathofg0d 1 point2 points ago

i didn't downvote you, and my question is sincere

please explain your position on good writing versus bad

Did you know: Much of the plot for Diablo I, II and III are all set up or foreshadowed in detail in the first Diablo manual? The extensive lore inside is worth reading for any fan of the setting. by OverUsedChewToyin Diablo

[–]wrathofg0d 10 points11 points ago

it was retconned

the overlords (butcher, smith, hephaestus) were originally angels, according to the diablo 1 manual. something else about the inarius plotline was fucked up by one of the book authors, and blizzard chose the books as the replacement canon

there are no overlords in diablo 3 because of this, i'm pretty sure. that's why the new butcher is a warcraft 3 abomination

did you know the writers of the diablo 3 fan-fiction books, along with chris metzen, took a fat, steaming dump all over everything that the original creators of the diablo universe and storyline had painstakingly created

hmm yes, tell me more about your thoughts on differentiating good writing from bad

I am sure some chains with only 4 tables per section really are pie, but I can tell you that while I did make $30 an hour or more on some nights it was hellish in so many ways and after moving on to other normal/lower paying work I wasn't tempted to go back.

do you really want to tell me that there wouldn't be a horde of people lining up to take your sub-$30/hour serving job? do you know how many people have far shittier, stressful, and dangerous jobs, and earn much, much less than $30?

just because you would not want to do it again for anything less than $30 does not mean that there aren't people who would love to have a job that requires no formal training or education and pays more than $10 an hour.

Let me put it this way: If you wanted to pay me hourly to be a waiter, you would have to pay me at least $30 to go back and do it. So the only difference to the diner would be that your bill would be drastically higher (to cover my higher salary) and if I did a shit job, you couldn't choose to subtract the portion that goes to my salary.

and here is the classic sense of entitlement that is always present in people like you. you will simply not be hired at that rate, and someone will be willing to do your job for less. i still stand completely behind my earlier point: you do not deserve to earn more money than the kitchen staff, who work harder, longer, and require more formal training.

Oh and if you base your argument on chefs salaries on what is realistically the equivalent of an intern situation, you are just taking any actual credence right away from your position.

i will be happy to discuss how the entire concept of interning itself is morally wrong (working for free) with you. if you think that internships that misuse the label and treat interns as unpaid (or, in this case, severely underpaid) staff are okay, then i would love to hear your reasoning as to why they're not a reprehensible form of exploitation aside from "that's just the way it is"

Meanwhile kitchen staff is sitting around reading the newspaper and having smoke breaks and getting... yup you guessed it full pay and benefits.

you're going to pull the "don't bash a job you've never done" bullshit when you have obviously never worked in the kitchen

congratulations on invalidating your entire argument. pity, you sure typed a lot. do feel free to backpedal and lie about having worked there -- it's already obvious that you're full of shit. if you have worked in a kitchen, and yet you choose to describe kitchen staff in such a disparaging manner, then you have some personal self-loathing issues to deal with.

he actually commented on his payscale and how servers earn more than him in another post in this iama

i am raising a very specific excuse to be critical of tipping: your job is not as hard as those of the kitchen staff, yet you earn far more at a high-end establishment, which is what we are discussing here.

an intern position with 12-hour workdays, filled with manual labor in uncomfortable working conditions. interning is also exploitative, by the way.

you are a self-entitled twat if you really think that servers deserve to make more money than linecooks. the work is less difficult, and it require less trainings, skills, and intelligence.

i'm glad that you're taking it in stride, but this honestly makes me feel so ashamed of our culture. i hope that you don't continue the cycle once you've achieved success, and you either encourage fair tip splitting or pay your cooks decent wages. i would love to make a shitlist of establishments that do things like this. there is no excuse to penny-pinch to such an extent if you're an extremely profitable high-end restaurant, and not some family-owned asian place (where it still isn't okay, but more... understandable)

and this is why tipping is bullshit

i can't believe you have to put up with this. i'm so sorry. if it were up to me, i'd send my tip to the people who actually make the food.

fuck anyone who thinks that tipping culture in the united states is acceptable in its current state. i'm going to start bringing up chef wages every time i get into an argument with retards who really think that a cute girl who simply has to write down orders, ferry food without dropping it, make small-talk, and stand around for a few hours really deserves to be paid $30+ an hour for something that any highschool dropout can be taught to do.

based on your post below concerning the average bill, the wait staff at your place are probably pulling in more than double that. ridiculous. it should be standard practice throughout the nation for serving staff making that much money to split with the kitchen, under-the-table wages or not.

shame on your employer for paying you such meager wages and exploiting you, too -- just because it's a standard practice in the restaurant industry doesn't mean it's okay. don't even get me started on the industry's exploitation of illegal immigrants.

"Show, don't tell" - Diablo 3's storytelling failures by dbcanuckin Diablo

[–]wrathofg0d 7 points8 points ago

the taunts from assorted NPCs throughout the game made me feel like i was playing a fucking jrpg

whispered threats that don't bring up any sort of dialog (just subtitles if you have them on) from diablo and everyone else would have been better than text with artsy portraits that i just skip through

i wish someone would figure out that blizzard's games are successful despite metzen, not because of him, and that he would be stripped of authority in regards to creative direction and storytelling. dude's the biggest fucking hack. you could probably pull a random chump out of a fullsail class and have them be able to write more compelling dialog and plot progressions

Having just played through D3, more excited to play Torchlight 2, anyone else in the same boat? by postal83in Torchlight

[–]wrathofg0d 1 point2 points ago

i am very excited

after 30+ hours and playing through act 3 inferno, i can safely say that diablo 3 is a huge disappointment

not as much as previous games, since vendors can spawn great items all the way up to the ilvl cap for merchants (54 i think)

stop trying to warn other redditors against being scammed. some people just don't deserve to hold on to their money. i especially like the people who are posting "SHE'S NOT DIRECTLY ASKING FOR MONEY HOW CAN IT BE A SCAM". i honestly cannot tell if they are either stupid or trolling.

i think development was simply halted with their departure, and the scrapping (and subsequent restart of development) occurred at a much later date, with both of these events not necessarily having occurred simultaneously

i want to say that d3 as we know it was developed within the past 4 years

nothing but endgame matters in a game where anyone can reach the cap with a few weeks of play

it's not like they were short on time or anything.

you're wrong, development on diablo 3 was scrapped and restarted, and someone, somewhere, set some sort of deadline for its release
