Idea thats been rolling in my head by ngineerin darknetplan

[–]wolfeater 1 point2 points ago

We still hold our original goal that you stated. Others may see if differently but I can tell you that is the goal of the entire meshnet team as far as I know (they can correct me if I'm wrong). We simply have been focused on the software side as the hardware side requires a larger community than we currently have, but we are working on that as well.

Chuck did this on NBC for multiple seasons. They first did it on season 3 and it was extended, and the show ended up lasting 5.

Are you serious?! Install instructions for cjdns start with "wget --no-check-certificate … | sh"?! Security? Who needs it! by rmcin darknetplan

[–]wolfeater 3 points4 points ago

Every aspect of this project is open, including CJDNS, all wiki pages, etc. If you see problems why don't you help us address them? Hell, if you made something better than cjdns than I'm sure everyone here would use it. Just don't complain about problems with the project and expect someone else to drop everything to address it. You can address it yourself, it's one of the great things about this community.

I (or another mod) will add something on the sidebar or another place on the Subreddit making this more clear soon.

As far as I know Project Meshnet absolutely plans to simplify it and package CJDNS as soon as it is out of alpha stages. It's just not stable enough for the general public right now.

Yup, that's why I said "typical" leadership in quotes. The op is simply not involved with the community in any other way than this project, and we don't know anything about him/her.

Honestly by your post I think you are misunderstanding what we are doing. Local mesh networks are not "so that anyone can get Internet access", they ARE the underlying network, being built city by city. CJDNS is just used to connect these while the networks are small. We don't have the user density to do it any other way.

[–]wolfeater 0 points1 point ago

I hope you realize how unrealistic it is for us to try and focus on something of that magnitude when we are still just starting out with our work. The reason we are focused on CJDNS and local mesh networks is after discussions with networking professionals we realized our dream of a separate network from the Internet is still far off, and so we set a more immediate plan of action that we could actually achieve for the time being. We don't have different goals, it's just that we actually are taking more realistic actions to building this dream network than some members of this subreddit would like. Simply saying we "should be building an entirely separate network that is not local" is a misunderstanding of how complicated this work is. We are building these local meshes and connecting them with cjdns to lay the groundwork for the real global mesh, and using this strategy helps ensure we don't become overwhelmed and fail. Is it as flashy right now as a global censorship free network would be? No, but with this plan set by the incredible team over at Project Meshnet might just actually work. Let me know any more questions you may have.

I am not a programmer on CJDNS so I can't attest to its progress, but I know cjd has been very hard at work on it along with an amazing team including many of the mods listed in the sidebar. Hyperboria continues to grow as well.

However, I have been working on plans for more community participation and coordination as well as bringing in new users and stopping the stagnation. I should have a update in the next couple of days so keep your eyes open. That's all I have for you from my end right now, but the project is far from dead.

First of all I just want to make sure people are aware socalMeshNet is not officially coordinating with any of the "typical" Meshnet Plan leadership as far as I'm aware so please don't come to us for support relating to it.

Second of all quick question for op: maybe I just haven't read enough about it, but what is socalMeshnet and how does it differ from other plans? Who is on the team, and how do we know our money is being well spent? Just some questions I have before offering my support.

How I feel about those who passed CISPA by LOL_YouMisreadThingsin AdviceAnimals

If you think our generation is any more politically knowledgable or motivated than previous generations you are sorely mistaken. Our generation is just as stupid as the older one, maybe just more cynical.

Obama May Back Down From CISPA Veto by lepercqin technology

[–]wolfeater 5 points6 points ago*

He did end the war in Iraq, not to mention the numerous other promises he's kept... repealed DADT, finally got health care reform passed, got Bin Laden, helped the NATO coalition overthrow the Libyan government, brokered a deal with Afghanistan to be 100% withdrawn by 2014, and a shit ton more. Any one who says Obama hasn't kept any of his promises or done anything has no idea what they're talking about.

EDIT: TIL redditors are overly cynical and impossible to please. Which is exactly why your opinions will never matter to anyone running for any public office.
