TROPHY CASE

After reading r/Atheism, I can't help but be happy when people get it right. by Armegadonin atheism

I was recently shopping for a used vehicle in the 2006-2009 range for commuting to work. I was highly disappointed in Toyota, as they didn't make side air bags standard on many of their smaller cars (Corolla included) until 2010. That's absolutely ridiculous, especially considering that most of their competition made them standard many years prior (Ford Focus 2008, Nissan Sentra 2007, Honda Civic 2006, Hyundai Elantra 2001).

Another brutal hit from IIHF, USA vs Finland, Salmela boarding on Goligoski by wordlifetn97in hockey

Yeah it probably happens a lot of boarding calls. I get more upset at the ones where they aggressor sees the opponent's numbers all the way in though. In this one the players were side by side before it turned ugly.

Once he realized the battle for the puck was lost, he should have let up, I agree. I'm just saying I don't think he went in there with the intent of burying the guy. He went in anticipating a battle for the puck, and when Goligoski got there first, he didn't back off like he should have. Instead he still tried to finish the battle, and a somewhat innocent turned much more dangerous.

I know that looked really bad, but to me it still looks partly accidental. I'm not excusing the hit, but I don't think there was much malice there.

The way Samela prepares for the hit it looks like it's going to be a harmless shoulder to shoulder battle for the puck. Goligoski just ended up further ahead and it seemed like Samela tried to adjust at the last second and failed. Even the crosscheck/push itself looked like it was originally aimed at Goligoski's side, but ended up turning him to face the boards head on.

r/Cars, how many miles per day is too much for a car? by wmarcelloin cars

Good point. I wonder if there's a way to find that out...

Ok. I just wanted to make sure that longer trips weren't especially hard on certain parts of a car. I was thinking that maybe there were certain components that could wear faster without being allowed to cool a little more often.

If no past service records are available, are there certain things I should look out for to help determine if the previous owners performed regular maintenance?

After looking up Code Complete it seems very enticing, and the reviews are almost all glowing. I might have to check that one out. Thanks.

Thanks for the recommendation. I do consider myself a decent programmer, but I program daily more on a smaller scale. I find myself lost when there is talk of larger scale architectures and frameworks. Perhaps that first book would do me good.

I do have a programming background in another language and make my living as a programmer. I don't have problems transferring that knowledge over to other languages, and a more generic book might be of more worth to me. I don't normally find myself stuck coming up with a custom solution to something, but larger scale applications make me feel like I am missing something in terms of organization. My place of work gets things done, but when it comes to having some kind of class framework we have nothing, and it's something I'd like to build.

That said, do you know of any good generic books that might help in that respect?

To my non-audiophile but still decent ears I think they sound great.

I've got an older pair in black and I love them too. :) Sadly the leather on the pads is starting to flake off, but they still sound great, at least to my ears. They're great for blocking out external noise in the office too.

As a Habs fan who is very glad to see the Bruins out, I find myself questioning the goal a little bit as well. It was a hard hockey play to the net, and refs will often give the player more leeway in that situation, but there seemed to be enough contact there to wave the goal off. I wouldn't call it a penalty, but in the regular season it may have been enough to call the goal off.

TIL Bryzgalov has a cup ring. I had no idea he was Giguere's backup in Anaheim.

I'll admit I'll watch this one once in awhile, but I really don't care about the first half of the show. I could just watch the second half and be fine with it. That's where they actually explain all the old, cool stuff they "found", and at that point it has a similar appeal to a show like Antiques Roadshow.

Just a year or two ago most people thought that Crosby was pretty much untouchable as the top player in the world. Definitely not anymore.

Now that the Coyotes made it to the second round, no matter what happens one team will be in the finals that has never won a cup before. by Greg1221in hockey

The Kings? For some reason that really surprises me. I guess I always just assumed that they had managed to win a cup when they had Gretzky.

What about Bryzgalov managing a 3-0 record with a GAA of 3.95 and a SV% of .868? That's got to be close to some kind of record.

During the Christmas season, does your cable provider display a fire burning in a fireplace on one channel? If so, do you ever see an arm add a log or prod the fire? by dbarefootin canada

I'm from NB and have watched the channel before on Rogers cable, and I've never seen an arm. You can spot where the video loops over if you look close enough, but that's it.
