where can I buy pogo pins for my DIY landscape dock? by davewinkwinkin GalaxyNexus

[–]white_gorilla 0 points1 point ago

I just got the GSM dock with the 3-pin connector by accident, for my VZW GN. Thing is, it fits in there pretty well and must be about 1cm or less from the contact rings; if i press down or lean something on top it connects and charges the phone.

Is there any way to extend the 3-pins on the dock with an extender or soldering of some sort? You seem pretty handy when it comes to these things (I certainly am not). Read your DIY post and really appreciate your help to begin with :).

Upvote! I'm not a huge Kevin Smith fan but I LOVED this movie. Everyone here's been talking about Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil; Red State blows it out of the fucking water.

Sweet thanks for the insight. Can you say about how much of your revenue comes from ad views (is see acoustic guitar has 100,000+ downloads so I'm curious a those numbers what you can make from ads).

You know, I never went through with AppBrain because they only allow you to promote free apps (I do not get why). It was tough to see the benefit of paying per install and seeing no certain return on it, so I shied away. Ever since I removed the ad on my main app page and replaced it with a permanent 'Go Pro' button, the turnover rate has been better. I will try $100 on AppBrain marketing and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the idea!

Posting the app up initially on reddit and xda forums, brought a lot of sales. I gave the .apk away for free since the communities have always been great and its great to get some feedback & discussion, and still got a couple hundred downloads of the pro version in the first few days (very grateful to those kind users). I guess some bloggers also scour the XDA forums, as it was picked up by Androinica, TalkAndroid, and a few other blogs (and ones in Spain, Italy, France, Brazil, etc.). Anytime it gets into one of the blogs, there is a notable spike in sales/free downloads.

I spent money on Reddit advertising ($30/day; the r/Android subreddit proved to be the best), and there was about an equal correlation in the amount of users it would increase at first (e.g. I would have an extra $30 in sales, making it a wash and I would gain some userbase/ratings), but slowly those numbers would dwindle.

I believe its a good, useful appl, and it has good ratings, which is why it is making any money, and is the most important to having a "successful" app on Android. Hopefully as the Android market userbase increases so will my app downloads. :)

My app Calculations 4.0 has 1,600 downloads since February 3rd, around 80% at $0.99 and 20% at $1.99, averaging around $25/day and a measly <$1 from ads on the free version (around 9,400 downloads).

Developing for Android is a great hobby, but unless you have a truly unique gem of an app/game, or a full-on staffed web service, you can't expect to make a living from it. If you do get together a group of 10 decent apps/widgets you may get by for a while.

I also spent around $200 promoting the calculator app. Promotion is very important (getting into blogs gives a huge boost) as Google Play does not make app discovery too easy.

P.S. My app has been #4-12 in Paid Finance apps for the past few weeks, surprisingly that does not bring it too much sales.

Google Play needs tweaking - here’s how, Google by VitoCassisiin Android

Awesome article, really points out the details of the flaws in the market and offers great suggestions to fix it. I hope someone at Google gets their eye on this.

I was going to submit your #1 as a reddit post; as a developer, sometimes I'd do anything to be able to answer a 1-star reviewer, it usually just requires a simple one line response. I got a 1-star review "market won't let me update app", I would have sent him the .apk if I could get in contact with him. Seeing the app go down from 4.7 to 4.5 from one review (or worse, if you get these early on) could really hinder the apps success.

Anyone watching Amazon Instant Video HD on their Logitech Revue? by TheRealFenderin Android

[–]white_gorilla 1 point2 points ago

I've been using Amazon Instant Video on my Sony Google TV for over a year and its been great. Occasional "buffering" (barely ever) but the quality is definitely at least 720p/1080i.

P.S. Jesse dies in episode 3. Just kidding.

That's pretty strange; shouldn't be like that and I think its one of Google Play Store's notorious "bugs". Anyway, shoot me a PM and I'll send you the .apk file for the Pro version. Thanks for the heads up!

Thank you very much for the suggestions, every single one of them really makes sense, and I'll definitely apply a few of them.

I'm currently working on getting the swiping animation between screens, I will definitely implement saving between screens in that update, and hopefully a few more of your suggestions.

Appreciate your great feedback very much!

I'm pulling my fucking hair out over here!! I can watch the devils, isles, lighting philly and ottawa games all in HD, but have to watch the rangers on C-SPAN2 in 1993-quality fashion when I live 5 blocks from MSG. Meanwhile, some guy in a shack in North Dakota can watch the game I want to, in HD, with no problem. Makes no fucking sense!! BAAAHHH!!

Sigh sorry for rant...
