TROPHY CASE

Designing my first professional site. What should I charge? by JorWoodyin web_design

[–]wardrox 0 points1 point ago

$20 an hour and bill for any server or domain purchases.

Don't agree to a fixed cost but do the best you can at estimating and updating the client on what's going on.

Also, what everyone else said is good advice :)

Looks interesting, but as these documents may not be super recent I wonder how close to them MS will stick. Seems to fit with all the other rumours flying around.

As a little update, the site now has these links :)

So the rule is, in the Insubordination No Impact/No Penalty section:

6.14.1 Intentionally committing an illegal procedure is not insubordination and must not be penalized as such

I think you're totally right that it's not an insubordination Minor or Major (or even No Impact), but I'm pretty sure (and this is where things go from practical to pedantic), it's an Insubordination No Penalty, because it's mentioned in the "No Penalty" section of the rules.

It does :)

I assumed as 6.14.1 was in the No Impact/No Penalty section of the Insubordination then it means "Intentionally committing an illegal procedure" isn't an Insubordination penalty, but is an Insubordination No Impact/No Penalty (as it's an Insubordination No Penalty). It's not a No Impact, but isn't it a No Penalty?

Feedback and more help appreciated :)

Eesh, also I got the wrong "it's". Thanks :)

I don't think I can help, unless you tell me which question it is.

If it's this one:

Who has a duty to whistle the start of the Jammers?

Then Referees is correct. As is Jam Timer, as is NSO. However only one correct answer is given each time. Many questions have multiple correct answers :)

With questions where more information changes the answer, I think I'm allowing people to assume that all the important information is in the question.

That's a feature I want to add, it's in the pipeline :)

For a while I considered having the entire rule set saved on the site, so it can just quote you the rule, but I'm pretty sure the WFTDA might frown on such a ... ahem ... mild copyright infringement :P

Awesome thanks. I wrote all of the questions and from the reports I've been getting, there's a 2% error rate :) Feedback like this is really, really useful, thanks!

I would love to, however one of the reasons I was less reluctant to step down as a mod is due to my general inactivity. I wouldn't want to start modding, only to not put in enough energy to really help. I have however subscribed, and it's made me a little happier today knowing SRSGaming exists :)

Hey now, this isn't Drama.

"Inactive mod steps down after realising the subreddit doesn't do things the way he feels comfortable with. Everyone is fine and he still respects the mods there." Is how I see it.

If you don't mind my asking, how do you define your nationality, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and age?

I ask not as a trap, but more to question if you've been/likely been the victim to anything such as homophobia. It's so hard to see it from the other side I find. I guess I'm trying to understand where you're coming from with the "let the majority decide", where I would say "have rules to protect the minority". It could well stem from a cultural thing.

No worries on being an arse, happens to the best of us :) I'm part of a group of guys discussing things like male privilege to try to get around the exact issue you brought up. Where by I feel like I want help from women, on how to be less of a bad man (please excuse the generalisations, I'm about to eat), but it's hard to get help.

This is a super handy resource for all kinds of privilege related stuff: http://blog.shrub.com/archives/tekanji/2006-03-08_146

This is a long read, but well worth it and covers sexism in gaming culture: http://www.starcitygames.com/magic/misc/22786_To_My_Someday_Daughter.html

And this one I've only skim read, but it's on my reading list. It's not super applicable, but might be useful: http://beyoungshutup.wordpress.com/2011/10/30/how-not-to-be-a-patriarchal-arsehole/

Edit: Oh, and this: http://www.reddit.com/r/SRSDiscussion/comments/oaksx/effort_debunking_rape_misconceptions/

Let me know if any of that is useful, or if you found any stuff yourself.

It's a hard topic to talk about, as it is very complex. In the UK we have hate-speech laws which lay out pretty clearly where on the slope you stop, where in the US anything goes (except shouting "fire " in a theatre, and such). So both are somewhere on the slope.

Around one in twenty people have been victims of sexual abuse, I don't think it's too crazy a thought to suggest that people privileged/lucky enough not to have had these things happen to them don't make light of what's a form of torture. People find it super hard to talk about these things, without the social pressures of people making light.

It's a huge topic, but I'd recommend looking up articles (sorry I don't have any at the moment, but I plan on doing some more reading on the subject later this week) on "rape culture", "male privilege" and connected topics.

To go back to the slippery slope, would you say it would be fair to remove posts which were sexist, or ones which were homophobic, or perhaps overtly racist? Where would you draw the line?

Dear Diary by PegLegGregin gaming

[–]wardrox 11 points12 points ago

There was a unanimous decision made by the other mods that because there's no rule against posts like this that they'll stay. As such, I've resigned as a mod. Not in an overly dramatic way, I just have a different approach to things. The mods of r/gaming are active and work hard to keep the place ticking over and functioning.
