Google and Facebook remove content in India, Is this the beginning of the end? by haemoglobinmanin technology

[–]wanderingmind 0 points1 point ago

Discredied, I believe. Even Assange did not claim it was accurate - it was gossip among journalists.

Thread on /r/technology on Google and Facebook removing content on Indian govt's order. by vardhanin india

The number of people who do not care about it either way - because they are not on the Net - is the largest.

The ones who are online, the overwhelming majority is for absolutely no censorship.

But freedom of expression, in India, is not so well-established and adopted by the larger society as an ideal concept yet. We are moving in that direction, but still a lot of those who oppose censorship cannot take any harsh criticism of their gods or religions.

In three days Amazon's Junglee becomes most visited E-Comm site in India...Beats Flipkart and Ebay by [deleted]in india

Yes, but that's the initial curiosity. Their range seems limited, so probably people are just checking them out. That may change if they actually start sales here.

Pathetic: Suresh Kalmadi travels in open car, gets enthusiastic welcome in Pune by Manoosin india

[–]wanderingmind -1 points0 points ago

I am not the SC to let go of anyone. I have opinions, but in the end, they are just opinions. I will hold on to my opinions, but Kalmadi and Modi supporters will hold on to theirs. The resolution of these will happen only in court, and even then, we can still keep our opposing opinions. It does not have much significance, that's all.

Innocent until guilty is a well-established legal principle, and that is the reality.

Should I tell the new man in my life how many people I have slept with? by bb900in relationships

[–]wanderingmind 5 points6 points ago

If both of you are the type who believe honesty is always good, then yes. Else...

How many people you have slept with says something about you. How many he has slept with says something about him. It says something about your willingness to take risks, impulsiveness, horniness, way of looking at opportunities and people. Definitely not everything about you, but it is something important.

So while the number may not be important, a general idea is. If honesty should be the basis of a budding relationship. If you are not both that type and want to go forward and then see where it all goes, the question would still come up sometime.

travelling alone as a (european) woman in north India - any difficulties to expect? by acidain india

[–]wanderingmind 5 points6 points ago

We are. While the majority of people are decent, remember that India has much more population density than anywhere else - and assholes are much more in numbers in any geographic location.

Be very careful, plan everything, including your cabs. Do NOT trust strangers with anything, even with getting directions.

[–]wanderingmind -2 points-1 points ago

What's pathetic? Innocent until found guilty and all that..?

No really - that we think Kalmadi is culpable (me included) is an opinion. It has no more value. I also think Modi is culpable. But in the end it is just an opinion till he is convicted.

Only 'quality' migrants welcome, says UK by gavadein india

Only quality migrants from UK should be allowed into India too. That will teach them.

Seriously, it is their country. Let them decide who they want.

Wait! A Maruthi Zen Convertible! WTF! by sheik_inin india

[–]wanderingmind 2 points3 points ago

Cool cool.

I don't use 'th', but have faced too many north indians questioning us why southies do it. Hence the response.

I don't think many sounds in Indian languages are possible to accurately write in English. Thakur is one, Maruti/thi is another. English itself has different ways of pronouncing the same 'th' ...

Wait! A Maruthi Zen Convertible! WTF! by sheik_inin india

[–]wanderingmind 1 point2 points ago

Nope. It is not Maru-tea. It is thi. Close to think than to tea.

And that reminds me: Why don't north Indians pronounce mother the way that pronounce Thakur or thok?
