TROPHY CASE

What trivial act would you like to ban or make illegal? Personally, I would like to outlaw public speakers who start off by saying, "I can't hear you!" or "Let's try that again!" by danger_mcboomin AskReddit

While it's nice you gave her the deductible the issues I still have with it are:

1) what if she didn't have insurance?

2) What about her Photos and other stored memos and the like?

My petname for my wife is "Doc". She thinks it's because she's a doctor. It's really because she's 4'9", and Doc was the first dwarf I could think of. What is your darkest secret? by IAmSoMeanMwahahin AskReddit

I'm not sure if you are one to read books, however this statement about you reminds me of the main character from "Henderson the Rain King". It's a great read and I would highly suggest it.

Have you tried starting to train the older puppy with a Positive Interrupter? While it might take some time at first, in the end it will be useful for all sorts on scenarios.

Some folks asked me why Glock prices are the same everywhere - this is why by FirearmConciergein guns

[–]vampiricrogu3 0 points1 point ago

This exactly. The important part is this:

This MAP Policy is not intended to be, nor shall it be construed to be, an agreement as to the minimum prices at which GLOCK Distributors and/or their Dealers will sell GLOCK products. Each GLOCK Distributor and/or their Dealers must determine in their sole discretion the price at which they sell GLOCK products. However, if GLOCK determines in its sole discretion, that a Distributor and/or their Dealers have advertised a GLOCK product at a price below that set in the current MAP price list, GLOCK will cancel all orders placed by the Distributor for itself and/or for their Dealers who are in violation of the MAP Policy

It's the same way amazon and other places can't show you the price until it's in the shopping cart. But you know you are still going to get a great deal.

What distro should I start with if I'm a complete noob looking to get into security? (xpost from r/linuxquestions) by VashyTheNexianin linux4noobs

[–]vampiricrogu3 1 point2 points ago

As people have been saying, most distro's are similar. As far as my suggestions, if you want to use a server distro go with Open Suse (Much like SLES) or CentOS (Much like Red Hat), However if you want to really get down and dirty with Linux and learn a ton give Gentoo a shot. If you are more looking to use Linux as a security tool and not learn the internals yet then take a look at backtrack (Ubuntu).

I hear what you mean and I'm sure you know giving CPR sucks and even with a defibrillator they often don't make it. I try and prepare people the best I can with the mind set that they might not make it and that it's okay, because people running around thinking it's a sure thing can be dangerous emotionally to the new first responders especially when they think about what they might have done wrong. IMO it's grim but a "safer" outlook. Keep training the next generation!

I wasn't questioning that Defibrillator raises the survival percent, if they didn't work there wouldn't be a trend in places spending the steep price to buy them and training people on them. I was more concerned that an EMT is pushing fallacious information about their success rate.

I have been a Firefighter for 10 years w/ CPR and an EMT for 4 years.

From your source.

In certain environments, where the Chain is strong and when defibrillation occurs within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, survival rates can approach 80% to 100%

American Heart Association on SCA by Ventricular fibrillation [PDF]

In Places where AED programs provide immediate CPR and deliver the first shock within 3 minutes after collapse, reported survival rates from VF cardiac arrest are as high as 74%.

From the American Heart Association Journal Talking about all types of SCA, not just VF

In the units providing only bystander CPR, 15 of 107 persons experiencing definite cardiac arrest (ie, an arrest of cardiac origin with rhythm identification) survived to hospital discharge. In the units providing bystander CPR plus AED response, 30 of 128 victims of definite cardiac arrest survived to discharge.

If you want to trust Wikipedia on it.

Type of Arrest Return Of Spontaneous Circulation Survival
Witnessed In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest 48% 22%
Unwitnessed In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest 21% 1%
Bystander Cardiocerebral Resuscitation 40% 6%
Bystander Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 40% 4%
No Bystander CPR (Ambulance CPR) 15% 2%
Defibrillation within 3–5 minutes 74% 30%

Edit: From the Same site you mentioned but on the Early Defibrillation details page:

When CPR and defibrillation are provided within eight minutes of an episode, a person's chance of survival increases to 20%. When these steps are provided within four minutes and a paramedic arrives within eight minutes, the likelihood of survival increases to over 40%. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), in cities where defibrillation is provided within 5-7 minutes, the survival rate from SCA is as high as 49%.

While they can do magic, I don't believe the slate is ever wiped clean.

This is one I like on the topic:

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence.

Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence...Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there. A verbal wound can be as bad as a physical one.

Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share a word of praise, and they always want to open their hearts to us.

Be a friend to others, and always remember the lesson of the fence.

If it helps any generally speaking if you don't break the ribs you aren't doing it hard enough. Granted that's not always the case but when some is down and you are doing CPR breaking the ribs don't matter as you're not doing harm, you are saving them.

My last call with a new EMT I put him on compression. Being the excitable new guy he was really thumping on this ~40 year old woman, to the point that he broke her ribs and punctured her lung to the point that blood was shooting out of her airway with every compression. It sucked but a month later she was back home an well on the road to recovery with no long term damage.
