Fair enough. I was unaware it was so uncommon. Most folks I know had maternity leave through their employer/coverage. It's relatively common in my state. Still, my statement was over generalized and based off the experience I've had and others I know of, not hard data. I apologize. I was wrong.

Let me put it this way. Everyone I know with a degree is employed. Maybe not with the best of jobs, but employed. Every unemployed person I know doesn't have a degree.

Jobs without degrees usually cap out between 40-60, unless it's a union or government job. So depending on where you're working now, you're almost there. With a degree on average people will make much more over their lifetime.

That's why I was wondering if it was a regional thing. It is very common where I live (Utah). Almost everyone we know gets paid maternity leave through their employer.

Where we worked at the time, short term was %100 percent and long term was %60. We were paid %100 percent of my wife's salary for 6 weeks and then took 6 weeks unpaid.
