I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is actually less wasteful. Jelly Bellies are gourmet jelly beans with flavors as such as buttered toast, pina colada, or even pepper. They're meant to be eaten one at a time. I was irritated when I bought my mom some assorted ones, and she shoveled a dozen of them.
