Japan: Where Are The Steeps? by iskieditin skiing

[–]tspike 0 points1 point ago

I believe Hakuba has the steepest ski terrain in Japan. I just skied there in April and it wasn't very steep by Colorado standards, but the snow was great and I loved the cultural differences.

I don't think I'd make a trip there strictly for skiing, but it's a cool travel experience.

She has blonde hair and blue eyes and was literally surrounded by men trying to touch her and take her picture when she was dressed conservatively and clearly didn't appreciate the attention. We were with our friend from India and he said they were making lewd comments as well. Whether she has a boyfriend is irrelevant.

In any case, it was really cool to see the camels and we did meet some really nice people

My girlfriend and I were there! Amazing designs, unfortunately we had to leave early because she was getting severely sexually harassed.

I didn't downvote you, but I'm guessing it's because you don't actually have a startup to share.

Cheers, good luck. I'd love to hear about it when you're ready to share.

I say this earnestly: the internet is a bad place for legal advice, even more so if you're not willing to share the actual concept. Talking to a lawyer will be worth it if you're dedicated to the idea. In all honesty, if it were me I'd just go for it and take the obstacles as they come.

Love what you're doing! I've been following it closely and want to thank you for sharing so much. When you launch, what are the "featured in these fine publications" links going to link to? Surely no one will have heard of you? Are you charity numbers going to be $0? If not, where do the numbers come from?

Thanks!

Graduate Degree in CS after BA in Liberal Arts/Social Science: Employable? by KantCanCodeThrowawayin cscareerquestions

[–]tspike 5 points6 points ago

Totally employable. Get some solid coding experience, get an internship every summer and a part time internship during the year. It's what I did, BA in linguistics and a CS masters, never had any trouble finding work.

Big decision for my programming/business career by advice_throwout_echoin cscareerquestions

[–]tspike 4 points5 points ago

Offer to help train a replacement, say you have a better opportunity, write documentation on what you've done, and move on. It's business. Sure, it is very important to keep your integrity and reputation intact, but you don't have any obligation to stick with one thing until you die.

On the other hand, if your heart is really with the business, then you need to figure out ways to make it more manageable, like living closer or getting a big pay bump or more equity, whatever it takes to keep your sanity.

In either case, it sounds like you desperately need a frank, open conversation with your business partner.

What was a major crossroads in your life and how did you deal with it? by tspikein AskReddit

[–]tspike[S] 1 point2 points ago

I quit my programming job to travel with my girlfriend for a year. We're circling the globe and having the time of our lives, and we've also seen a lot of tragedy, poverty, and all the things that go with it.

Coming back home, I'm recognizing acute lacks in my life as it was: I really enjoy the problem solving aspects of programming, but I hate the chained-to-a-desk with little social interaction aspect to it. I feel like I pour my energy into it and that what I do doesn't make a difference in anyone's lives for the better. On the flipside, it's interesting, better than a lot of other jobs, and it's my clearest path to a good income which I can use to save up for other purposes.

Or... I could give up some material comforts and devote my energy to something that makes a positive difference. I have a few ideas for nonprofits I'd like to get rolling.

Or I could start my own business.

Or I could focus on my writing.

Or I could move somewhere else in the world and learn a new language and a new culture, which I'm clearly loving.

It's overwhelming, leading from a recognition that I'm not tied to any particular path and that where I decide to devote my energy will shape the coming years in my life.

Thanks for asking =)

how to not be an idiot? by [deleted]in relationship_advice

[–]tspike 1 point2 points ago

Maybe red flag is the wrong word, but it's frightening to think that the other person expects more than you're willing to give, even if you're genuinely enjoying the first stages of the relationship.

Instead of letting things go naturally, it might be forcing a decision about a more "serious" relationship.

edit: I'll be offline for a few days as I'm traveling but would be happy to continue the conversation the next time I'm online!
