My cat's the same way. When I first got her, I used to back off when she tried to bite and scratch me and just tell her "No!" and ignore her for awhile. When I realized that didn't work, I just went with it and kept trying to rub her belly while she fought back. Now she realizes, "Crap, he's not gonna give up..." and runs away. I'm very slowly gaining dominance in this apartment.
