I have stories of that in my biz where it's cost that much...problem is, we ALWAYS recommend replace instead of repair if the bill starts to approach even $200. But people with 5+ year old computers often don't care, they'd rather repair... I've even argued until I was blue in the face before, but sometimes it's no use.

To be fair, it's a vicious circle -- not the least of which is that it seems to be common knowledge that insurance companies lowball to make the most money (they are, after all, publicly traded, right?)

THIS, most definitely. Injuries related to whiplash can recur for a long time, especially if you had the kind of serious immediate symptoms you described. By all means, don't sink to their level and try to screw them outta money, but get LOTS of good medical advice and be careful to not sell out your future health for a bit of money now
