I have a question about one of my favorite Zep songs! (The Ocean) by stonerstonesin led_zeppelin

I've only ever heard "and then they went" and I've been singing it like that forever. I could be wrong but I'd trust that site.

Foreign Pokemon Names by sunshinesanin pokemon

Deerling's French name is Vivaldaim, after Vivaldi, who composed The Four Seasons.

Don't know why they couldn't have used it for the English version, Deerling is a really dumb name...

April Discussion Thread #3: Braid [360] by ander1dwin GameSociety

I see. I thought about it further and I suppose that I just feel as though the story could have been in a book, without a game, and the game could have been relatively the same.

I know you said exactly the opposite in your article (well worded, by the way) but that's probably because I was less open to interpretation. In fact, I usually don't like reading too far into things.

Basically, I looked at Braid and saw a really beautiful game with unique puzzle mechanics and a story on the side. Where you saw, if I can assume, a game that used the mechanics to tell a story that you found a deeper meaning in.

Which is what is nice about a game like this, it does different things for different people. I'm going to have to play through again now, and this time I'll read much further into it.

Shadow of the Colossus

The game's storyline focuses on a young man named Wander who enters a forbidden land. Wander must travel across a vast expanse on horseback and defeat sixteen massive beings, simply known as colossi, in order to restore the life of a girl named Mono. From Wikipedia.

This is a game that I consider perfect. Everything that it sets out to do, it accomplishes phenomenally. Not only is the gameplay excellent, but there are many underlying themes in the game that are intertwined with the game itself. And for that, I think it deserves to be talked about.

I can't agree more with JRandomHacker. The ending gave me my only "game-gasm" thus far. I did use a walkthrough for a few of the later puzzles and while I don't regret it, solving them on your own is so satisfying.

Which brings me to one of my favourite things about the game. You can literally walk past every puzzle in the game without solving it. Not only so you can take a break and come back to it later, but it also makes the game feel like you want to solve the puzzles, rather than you have to (even though you do have to, just a false sense).

Then there are the obvious excellent parts of the game: the art, the music, and the amazing puzzles. The overall design really is superb and it can be interpreted on many levels.

However, I think the major flaw was the story. It was executed poorly and it was trying too hard to be convoluted, in my opinion. I thought it felt very out of place and almost completely unnecessary. Just compare it to a game like Bastion, where the story comes out as you play the game.

I'm curious, does anyone in r/Pokemon nickname their Pokemon? by rokkuranxin pokemon

[–]tinglethefairy 0 points1 point ago

I have been since 5th gen and everything since then I've replayed. Usually I give them human names based on the first letter of their Pokémon name (Chinchou --> Chippy) or something unrelated that I think off the top of my head (Volcarona --> Frederick).

Even if I think they are dumb at the time, or I'm iffy about it, the names usually stick and I end up loving them.

The point of stars on weapons? by iaacpin KiDIcaruS

[–]tinglethefairy 1 point2 points ago*

I can't test it right now, but if you use the items in the practice range it shows the exact amount of damage they do. Unless you tested it like that already. I'll try it out when I get home.

Edit: Yes, damage. The difference of 1 star was about 3 damage though...

I think stars really just show quality relative to the category (ranged or melee). There are probably a bunch of invisible stats that calculate damage...

Scaling Difficulties changing how the game is played. TES style games mainly. by Thormicin truegaming

[–]tinglethefairy 1 point2 points ago

So you're saying that easy mode would have all the locations unlocked already? I think that would take away from anyone's game experience and undo what the game (Skyrim/Fallout 3) try to achieve.

However, the idea of no quick travel or map markers would be interesting. I would keep the scalable difficulty but have a 'realism' mode (like Left 4 Dead) that implements those ideas.

Maybe a modder could make it happen!

But if a player from the enemy team stands next to your cart, doesn't it block the progress? Unless you're each standing close enough to your cart, but far enough from the enemies...

It tells you the highest intensity that you've beaten the level on, if that counts.

There are 25 chapters.

Currently on chapter 12, about 4.5 hours with replaying some levels.

I do think that it's a very good game overall. Its strong point is the weapon system for sure.

A lot of people have complained about controls. I found that dodging on the ground is too difficult to achieve with the circle pad and a lot of times I just dash into lava. Aiming has actually been fine for me, except when the reticle hides behind Pit, and the small screen can get very crowded, especially at higher difficulty.

With that being said, the music is fantastic, the voiceovers are quite welcome (though I had to turn the volume down for the sound fx and voices. And they get repetitive when replaying levels), great weapon selection, a tonne of unlockables and it's very good looking.

I really do like it and I see it having a lot of replay value. I can't play it for too long at a time without breaking my thumb. Though the same thing happened when playing Zelda...

Anyways, I think it's really quite good, definitely justifies me buying a 3DS and I recommend it to anyone who also has one.
