TROPHY CASE

Helmets, opinions, do you guys where them? by footballsteve13in skiing

[–]tincansandtwine 10 points11 points ago

As the brother of someone who suffered a traumatic blow to the skull from a rock while not wearing a helmet, I would most definitely advise always wearing a helmet while skiing. It occurred on a run we have skied a thousand times, just coming off the traverse from a complete stop; low speed, familiar terrain.

Freak accidents happen, and if you are not wearing the appropriate gear, you can very easily die. In a split second. It may sound like I'm exaggerating, but, having been so close to losing my brother, I can tell you that the risk is real.

Droid Razr Maxx with only 3g on lasts for about 4-5 days. I definitely would recommend it.

Bluetooth mouse/keyboard app that does not require server software? by handbrain Android

[–]tincansandtwine 0 points1 point ago

BlueputDroid is the app you're looking for. I use it as my keyboard/mouse for my HTPC. It's pretty awesome, with only minor annoyances (no adblockers allowed (devs gotta make coin somehow) and the occasional bug).

Ninja edit: Requires root and has certain kernel requirements (though most phones work).

Using an Asterisk server and Google Voice, I have accomplished two things: 1. WiFi calling on Sprint 2. An awesome analog phone to answer calls with by pathartlin Android

[–]tincansandtwine 2 points3 points ago

Can you point me to some info on how you set this up? I am just starting out on the exact same project, and could use some helpful tutorials. I plan on running the Asterisk server on my TomatoUSB (Toastman) router, alongside a VPN.

Also, thanks for the video. It has proved to me that not only is what I want possible, but it's really friggin' cool.

Frieling. I have been lusting over this press for a while now. I'm just waiting for my current glass press to break to replace it.

Can we make some noise about this? This mute bug makes the phone unusuable as a phone... by chaosphoenixin GalaxyNexus

Other way around. Have the other person send out the tone.

Can we make some noise about this? This mute bug makes the phone unusuable as a phone... by chaosphoenixin GalaxyNexus

[–]tincansandtwine 1 point2 points ago

I have no idea what the reason is. All I know is that when I used to have long conversations on my phone, if I couldn't hear the other person, I would just keep saying "Push a button". Then I'd hear a tone, and then the other person.

I actually think it's a problem with Verizon's network, as it's happened to me on multiple different phones, including a regular flip phone. The temporary fix is for the other person to send a dial tone (by pushing a number on the dial pad). You'll hear the tone, and then everyone should be able to hear each other.

You are right to be concerned about thermal shock. Pouring near boiling liquid into a carboy filled with ice is asking for trouble. Also, and I'm not quite 100% on this, but aerating the wort (i.e., pouring it or siphoning it) at high temperature is no good. I believe it leads to off flavors of some kind. Again, I'm not sure this is a legitimate concern, but it is something I've heard so you may want to look into it.

Ninja edit: If you are going to do it, use distilled water to make the ice. Bags of ice from the store are laden with the nasty.

What is the Ideal Tupperware? by Jayhawkerrin Frugal

[–]tincansandtwine 1 point2 points ago

I'm a little late here, but I feel obligated to mention these. Been using them for 4 years now, and they're still like brand new. I use them for lunch, freezing leftovers, camping, and pretty much anything you think a tupperware container can be used for. These things are tanks.

One caveat: the lid has a silicone seal which isn't dishwasher/oven safe, so you have to wash the lid by hand. Other than that, these things are indestructible.

Ninja edit: I'm talking about the all stainless round ones. I'm sure the others are just as awesome, but I don't own them, so I can't say for sure.

No snow. Lost the ski last year, when we had a ton. This year, there's a 32" base.

A 32" base in January. It's a sad year.

Tried it. No go. They wouldn't even send me a warranty ski, which apparently get shredded. What a waste.

Unfortunately I'm not close (I'm in NY). I've talked to ski patrol, but they said they get rid of anything they find once the season's over (they find a lot of stuff).
