What types of air conditioners are going to be the most energy efficient, least costly, and keep my apartment cool in summer?

I use those thermal curtains that don't allow light through in all of my windows so the place stays pretty dark. I also have a box fan I can use in addition to the ceiling fans. It really is for those hot/humid days like you said. I wouldn't run it all the time either.

How will I know if the unit will run enough to reduce the humidity before shutting off?

The hottest it usually gets around here is 85-90 degrees, though I'm expecting hotter this summer since winter was mild.

Generally I'd say more humid than dry.

I do have ceiling fans in every room. The windows all have screens, but they are old and in terrible shape so I don't really open/close them ever (for perspective, I have to use a piece of wood to keep them open).

It's sad cause f7u12 is the subreddit that got me hooked on Reddit. I laughed at many of the comics, and even made a bunch of my own. Now the mods are just a bunch of fuckjobs, and the "quality" of the comics that they allow to stay on the front page is nothing more than garbage.
