DAE think that scooters here in Okinawa should be noise controlled to a certain decibel level or not allowed to make loud noises late into the night? by Chubbsiein okinawa

[–]therekkoner 0 points1 point ago

No, there's no law in place, and I don't really mind either way. You've probably noticed the vans that drive by with megaphones on top, blasting whatever they're advertising. The motorcycles at night only bother me when I'm on the street, when I'm at home I don't really mind. They specifically like to rev their engines around the American bases, I've noticed.

What happens if you run Dead Silence Pro during this? Can't you just get launched in the air and come down just fine? That would be pretty sweet.

Kurt Vonnegut on book burning. "I am very real" by SatelliteJanein TrueReddit

Hey, don't piss on Faulkner. Barn Burning? A Rose for Emily? Those are awesome stories.

Out of the 7ish books I've read of his (I literally just put down The Sirens of Titan to browse Reddit for a second), I'd say it's because it's one of his novels that sticks close to home. And by home I mean Earth. I think it's an excellent read, especially if anyone thinks that Vonnegut's quirky style is too reliant on fantastical stories taking place in off the wall scenarios. It's a very real, very human story.

I can't tell if this is a username reference or theological rebuttal.

One of Robert Bowling's final CoD interviews hit out at 'f***ing subscriptions' by RealJBlazein mw3

[–]therekkoner -2 points-1 points ago*

Activision has offered him 'sincere thanks' for his many years of service as "a trusted and valued member of the Infinity Ward team".

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but the word "trusted" sounds kind of suspect here. Is this their way of hoping that Robert doesn't throw them under the bus and smear their name even further?

edit: I don't mind the downvotes, just wish someone would attach a reason to them.

I like coming up with my own storylines to compliment the gameplay. Makes things a bit more intense.

Leaving for Army BCT in two days, 4 pounds overweight by herpyderpyherpin Militaryfaq

[–]therekkoner 0 points1 point ago

The biggest thing you can do right now: sweat. Seriously. A lot of weight is water weight. Hit up a sauna, run in sweats, do what it takes to get a good sweat and keep doing it. You don't have to to go into MEPS on the verge of passing out (don't be retarded about it), but just enough to lose weight.

They might have changed things since I went through, but I went through MEPS with a few extra pounds also. If you fail the weigh-in, they'll tape your neck and abdominal regions to check your body fat percentage. Most people who are just a couple pounds overweight will pass the tape just fine, just depends on your body type. There's some old tricks to passing that too if you need them, but like I said with just a few pounds you should be alright (if they haven't changed that).

As someone from Memphis, I think I should tell you that all citizens are required to Prestige at least 3 times. It's considered combat training and comes in very useful for day to day life.

I feel ya dude. I beat Fable (one and two back to back) with a baby sleeping on my shoulder. Just picture it like you have an army attacking you and your kid, and just go beast mode on those fuckers.

Have you tried putting out a shoutout in the main subreddit? You might have some folks join in from there.

I don't think this subreddit gets enough traffic to warrant segregating. All the issues you brought up (putting mods for each specialty) could just be utilized here. By the name, I thought it would be similar to the US Army WTF Moments page and Facebook group. I think it would be a great idea to repurpose it to that idea, it could be like an /offmychest for the military (because who doesn't like getting to bitch about their job). But that's just my two cents.

The BestOf mods are considering a one-week experiment: NO posts from default subreddits. Thoughts? by bechusin bestof

[–]therekkoner 2 points3 points ago

No, you can submit comments from the main subs to restof. They just have to be buried deep in the posts, not upvoted too much, and not exactly worthy of a bestof post.

Reddit, what is the worst thing you have come home to that your dog/cat has done? by TehAwesomePwnerin AskReddit

It did have a gash on the side, but not deep. The dog got a few stitches, but he didn't seem to be in any pain.
