A cinder cone! I hiked one of these last year at Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. What a slog that was...

Fed Official says: The problem is structural. There´s not much monetary policy can do to help revive the economy. by herminionein Economics

The only way the people will accept that is if we live in a full-on police state a la 1984.

Better hang onto your guns.

In 2006 we were right at the top of the largest financial bubble in the history of the world. Of course we had full employment.

Yeah, I got really lucky with the pollen in the water. Crater Lake is amazing! I tell everyone if they only see a few things out west, go to Glacier Park, Crater Lake, and Yosemite.

It's not so bad in the middle of summer as long as you stay in the top six feet of the lake. Go below that and you'll know what instant paralysis by cold feels like...

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests show the US government is running a massive spy campaign on Occupy Wall Street. by zooflyin news

[–]the2ndblahmonster 1 point2 points ago

Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan do not control our government per se. If a politician wanted to, he could easily speak out against such cronyism - see Ron Paul as an example. There are just not enough honest politicians to overwhelm the dishonest ones. The point I'm trying to make is that it is not nearly as simple as CORPORATIONS CONTROL EVERYTHING OMGWTFLOL!!1! Corporations seek that power, and the government gives it to them for favors, kickbacks, and promises of lucrative future employment post-career. It's a two-way street, my friend, but in the end, all major power comes from the government. Without the government's assistance, corporations are little more than a group of people who want to sell you things. Hell, without the government's protection, corporations would not exist. Think about it.

The power lies with corporate interests? Who is doing the spying, again?

Are we less interested in truth and understanding than being right?

Generally speaking, people are more interested in being whatever they consider to be 'right' than they are learning something new and challenging their own beliefs.

Generally speaking, philosophers are the opposite.

Fixing things. I can fix anything: cars, motorcycles, computers, household appliances, the house itself - ANYTHING. I have no idea how many thousands of dollars I've saved by fixing my own things myself.

Time for a tire change... What are your thought on DynaBeads? by michael816in motorcycles

[–]the2ndblahmonster 2 points3 points ago

Used them for a few thousand miles on a trip last year, and quit using them after the nth time one of them caused my tire to deflate by getting stuck in the valve stem when I checked the tire pressure.
