Oh, they know how to use it alright...They might not understand it's initial purpose however and based on their emotions, create their own.

Yeah, brainfart. You're right about battle-picking. It wasn't worth a second thought, I just went with my first and posted here as opposed to letting it go into the junk bin in my brain.

Edit: I downvoted my own submission.

It's my own personal gut...I can't change it, nor will I try to. You telling me to 'lighten up' is as uptight (most likely more) as me being offended by this joke. I'm not letting it dig into my soul or anything. I just didn't like how it made me feel once reading it and wanted to share with the community. I'm not trying to get people up in arms with pitchforks.

I hold companies to a higher standard of ethics than people telling jokes. Secondly, I do not believe "doing something smart" "killing millions" and "jew" should ever be in close proximity in a series of phrases.

Consider the construction of the question. The first two work together nicely. The third sounds alright by itself, but then what thought follows? The mention of a 'Jew'. Someone doing something smart killing millions, then a jew joke. Maybe it was completely innocent, but that means it was in there subconsciously. And this was written by OkCupid...So the questions should be of higher caliber than anything...And not make inferences to the holocaust.

The idea of rationalism plays a large role here that I neglected to consider. I set this experiment up with rational players, but quite often, those committing suicide were once rational players that are lapsing in judgment (that will have a permanent effect and keep them away from ever returning to rationality).

It's tough. I suppose if you consider the person committing suicide to be irrational, then it may be construed as more selfish because they allow their current emotions to make a statement about all of their future emotions...but the sheer fact that they are lacking rationality dissolves them from the responsibility of clear judgment. Therefore an irrational person committing suicide cannot be selfish because they are irrational.

As much as this was meant as a joke, I'm giving you an upvote for the truth in simplicity. In life, we consume from the planet, in death, we enrich the soil so that more may grow (potentially, depending on how/where we're buried).

That's everyone else's selfishness that you're talking about. If they offered you a life, they should have done so with no expectations. Just because one has the ability to help others doesn't mean that they ever will.

And then consider the drain on resources that the average individual can be. That's essentially calling anyone who nets lower value than creates it a selfish person...but how are you going to quantify the general value that a person creates? That's a whole new can of worms.

I believe that everything everyone does is selfish...which might as well be the same as nothing anyone ever does is selfish. I do not use the word as a pejorative as I assign no positive/negative value to terms, they simply 'are' in an indifferent universe (again, this sounds naturally unfeeling in the English language, but I don't see it that way).

Met an amazing girl on OkC, we had a long distance dealie for about a year and a half. And today, despite our distance, I'm happy to call her my best friend. So yes, much success. :)

Awkwardness stems from the fear of not being accepted. Once you accept and love yourself, awkwardness becomes a thing of the past.
