Worst virus/trojan damage I've ever seen by humjabain software

Actually the good thing about it is that all new viruses don't work on it :)

Anyway I'm almost certain it was XP. "Documents and Settings" was in 2000 and XP and 2000 wasn't too popular outside of businesses.

I feel like an absolute dumbass for asking this, but what does LTE mean and do I really need a phone that is whatever LTE is? by heyheylove_87in Android

Well, for now the amount of memory is decent. Most phones has that much, but also Nexus One had that much and it was released over 1 year ago.

Not when they have them connected through T1 :P

Don't worry about LTE.

The technology is very young and it'll take time (years) for Verizon to make it available everywhere. On top of that they still haven't (or did quite recently) standardize how the voice would be transferred over it. So all phones that currently have it, only use it for data. And as for data, I'm sure you know the new Verizon data plan where you pay same amount of money for 2GB. Oh yeah, I also heard the LTE towers right now provide only T1 speed :)

In short, don't take LTE into account when picking phones right now. By the time it'll be beneficial you probably will be looking for next phone (or maybe next one after that).

About Droid 3 if I were you I would be worrying about: - locked bootloader (OG Droid when was forgotten by Verizon we could flash a new ROM to squeeze more out of the device). Motorola mentioned unlocking, but the way they said seems like Verizon customers won't get it. - RAM amount - Droid 3 has 512MB RAM (2x as much as OG droid), this is ok today, but phones today had 512MB for quite a while. There are already Android devices popping up with 1GB RAM. That means D3 will soon end up in similar way as D1. D1's low performance wasn't because of PU speed but because of small amount of memory. Applications became bigger and they don't fit all in the memory (SwiftKey X for example now uses 25MB of ram, I seen it use 80MB at one point, the old Swiftkey used about 5MB) . So they constantly being killed and restarted.

Okay, how do I fix what Winter Quarter did to my GPA? by yuminmytumin ucla

[–]takeda64 0 points1 point ago

I think what it really comes to (perhaps it's because of quarter system, which often end up in classes just having one midterm and one final) is no matter how well you think you know the subject your grade really depends on how hard you studied before midterms, finals. The exception would be classes which have projects that are worth big percentage of the grades. Or classes that have a lot of homeworks that are worth a lot of the grade.

In semester based system seems to be more forgiving (for example if you mess up one midterm with some teachers it might not even have impact at all on your grade, in quarter system it generally will)

The developer can easily detect if there's internet access or not, and just make app stop working (hopefully explaining why).

There are tools for rooted phones that target apps more directly. I know one that makes google ads non functioning, you can also use droid wall to configure internet access for every application.

Here author of the program can just stop the program and display a message: "This app requires internet access because so and so".

I think this is much more useful for the apps that for example require access to your contact book, your gps location, your unique id of the phone etc etc.

You can already block internet access from the apps.

First not sure why you're being downvoted.

Anyway, I don't own iPhone so don't know how it is being done, I thought it was the same as on Android (i.e. app requires permissions and you can't run it without them). I feel that asking users for permissions would be confusing for some user so I wouldn't think Apple would go that way.

I know for sure that what you mentioned definitively works on Blackberry (when you install an app, you have option for every requested permission to decide: allow, block or ask)

In case of usability I think that's not necessarily a bad idea.

I don't know. When I used Ubuntu I started being scared. Sometimes the updates fixed something sometimes sometimes they broke something that worked perfectly fine before.

There's actually a better setting (at least for me):

opera:config#UserPrefs|HideURLParameter

With this, the bar works as it initially was, except it no longer hides stuff after the question mark.

I was complaining more about that now when I enter text in the bar and it is an nonexisting domain, it redirects me to google.

Previously Opera was using the settings in Preferences > Advanced > Network > Server Name Completion.

I could for example type: reddit/r/software and ended up in http://www.reddit.com/r/software

It was pretty handy, now it doesn't work and so far I was unable to locate switch to disable it.

Well, that's why you have multiple browsers, so you chose what works best for you. It starts to suck when all of them are the same.

I don't care much about Chrome, what pisses me off is that other browsers will probably follow it :(

IMO Opera took few steps backwards when they made changes to their address bar to be more like the ones in FF and Chrome :(

My bad, I interpreted your response as implying that based on your Moto Droid 1 experience you were assuming other Moto phones can do the same.

As for Moto Droid 1 I have feeling that 2.2.1 is the last version we'll get. We'll need to use custom roms to run newer ones.

For example if you would own Moto Droid 2, once it reaches EOL you're screwed. I think that's one of the things people hate.

Also ROMS like CM offer a lot of functionality not available in original android. As an user of locked device you won't even have a chance to try it.

No, Moto Droid 1 was never a developer device. No root, and only could be purchased from Verizon.

Not sure, maybe there was some kind of deal they had to leave it unlocked, but from a friend who worked on it I heard that they were originally planning to lock it too.

On iPhone you basically have google maps, you can find a point, get directions, but it doesn't tell you where to turn or update the route as you drive.

Basically the navigation came after Android was released, I think Google didn't provide it to iPhone since they're competing with them.

Moto D1 doesn't have locked bootloader. They were planning to enable that but I guess due to deadlines (and probably because it was for Verizon) they skipped it.
