Olympic National Park expansion felled by politics of misinformation by shemp420in Washington

[–]syspig 0 points1 point ago

For every radical redneck you show me over here, I'll show you an equal if not greater number of extreme tree-hugging, NIMBY whack jobs. One side is content to pillage the resources, the other is intent on doing everything they can to ensure people can't enjoy them.

Fortunately, both of these categories of nuts are in the minority.

Feel free to enjoy life atop your bigoted and narrow-minded pedestal.

As one of the "ugly people" living over here in paradise...just do us all a favor, and stay east.

Should I get her? How about a name? by TeeArein Pets

She shares a similar look to your lawn.

I'd go with "Momee". That's a long "o", I ain't commenting on your mother.

A fantastic example of where never to buy your dog... by WhySoSerious8in dogs

[–]syspig 0 points1 point ago

Usually true, but again - not always.

A very common practice with top breeders is co-ownership of their most promising pups. The contracts vary, but for females a common requirement is the right for a future litter from the pup once health checks are confirmed and competitive titles have been obtained.

When this happens, the dog is usually returned to the breeder a couple weeks prior to birth and remains there until the pups are of age to leave. So, depending on when you see the pups - the mother may or may not be there, as she may have returned to her permanent home.

The breeders I'm familiar with that do the above, typically only co-own pups with local owners - so seeing the mother is usually possible, but she might not be on site.

Sorry, that's quite often not the case. And, since the best breeders usually don't use stud dogs they own, seeing the father is up to the owner of that dog - something they'll likely be agreeable to, but it's beyond the breeder's control.

And, as far as access to the stud dog - with the prevalence of artificial insemination being used by many top breeders, the stud dog might be on the other side of the country, or even out of the country.

Montana = dirt road heaven by agent_ochrein Dualsport

Agreed...

You passing through MT, or live there? I'm heading 'round the country in another 6 weeks or so, heading through MT on the way east. A Tiger meetup on some of those roads would be worth a detour.

If they won't allow you to see the entire litter and both parents...

Actually, the above is another prime example of an irresponsible breeder.

The best breeders rarely, if ever have both parents on site. Rather, they'll research appropriate stud dogs to address deficiencies and/or enhance traits existing in their bitch.

Having a "breeding pair" onsite is a huge red flag.

Big milestone today - first 20 miler! by SighThouMaystin running

[–]syspig 1 point2 points ago

Awesome job!

Did my first 20 miler last summer, and I recall it much the same as you described. It was a huge physical and mental hurdle to overcome, but the good news - if you're like me, beating that monster made future accomplishments much easier. It was the first goal I met that made the "you can do anything if you work hard enough" mentality really sink in.

Again - congrats!

Man...you have some serious logic issues.

Most everyone reading here has a pet, and every one of them will die. While I've no solid proof, I'll go out on a limb and suggest this demographic outnumbers those with overly emotional girlfriends who can't skip over posts. As to considering the removal of such posts being for the "public good" - the majority of these posts rank highly, and the majority of them have replies of sympathy and encouragement. The whiners are in a distinct minority.

As to angry - not at all. Disgusted is more like it. This is an audience that understands how wonderful human/animal relationships can be, and yet it contains an element that considers it acceptable to shit all over fellow pet owners in their time of need.

If pointing out these peoples' obvious lack of compassion makes me appear narrow, outspoken and/or angry to the offenders - I'm not going to lose much sleep over that.

Give me a fucking break...comparing an innocent post from a grieving pet owner, to you getting punched in the face or skinheads is simply retarded.

RE your girlfriend - sorry, I don't believe in dealing with lowest common denominators when it comes to judging the public good. If your girlfriend literally cries when she sees a title of a post indicating somebody lost a pet - SHE has the problem.

There's nothing wrong with doing it here, and blasting a grieving owner's post simply to keep things organized in a manner you wish shows a complete lack of sympathy.

If somebody finds /r/petloss and wishes to post there - great. If not, and it ends up here - there's no need to be a complete dick about it by deleting their post.

Yes...because the inconvenience of you simply ignoring something, is far more important than showing compassion for fellow pet lovers.

I raced sprint karts for several years...and if it ain't plainly obvious, this guy is fucking nuts. Anyone making a regular habit of this will likely be dead long before they're arrested.

I succumbed to the desire to drive my kart on the road a few times...and if you think cars can't see you when you're on a bike, try driving something that's less than 3' tall, with no lights.

Drove down the street from my house one day after doing some maintenance...and had to swerve at speed to avoid the back end of a station wagon backing out of a driveway. Let's just say that missing a chrome bumper at face height by a couple feet, while traveling at near 60MPH - was a lesson not forgotten.

What mistakes did you make during your first marathon? by cpsteele64in running

[–]syspig 10 points11 points ago

Going out too fast is indeed a problem, but it's often a separate issue from insufficient training. Many first timers I've chatted with who blew out early ran sufficient miles in training - myself included.

Race day excitement and adrenaline is also a primary culprit and was my downfall. I knew what pace to go out at, and had I stuck with it I'd not have been afflicted. Instead, everything felt so good I took off from my pace group at mile 7, assuming I was having a great day. I felt so good, I convinced myself I could come in 15 minutes faster than the very conservative time I had planned.

Kaboom at 17 - and I'd run farther than that three times prior. At mile 21 I was passed by the pace group that was "holding me back" earlier, and finished almost 15 minutes behind them.

[LOW CAL][QUICK]Penzeys Sate Chicken Breast by syspigin fitmeals

[–]syspig[S] 1 point2 points ago

Sure...their Tandori seasoning is great, and I use it on occasion instead of the Sate above in the same recipe.

Their Vietnamese Fancy Cinnamon is unbelievable...prior to trying it, I thought cinnamon was cinnamon, but nothing compares. It gets used daily in the oatmeal and cappuccinos, and takes baked goods to a whole 'nother level.

Others that are on my short list: Fajita mix, bold taco mix, Turkish (great in soups, rice, potatoes), Arizona Seasoning (mix w/olive oil, salt and garlic, coat on sweet potato wedges and bake), any of their whole peppercorns. BBQ3000 gets mixed reviews - not a very conventional BBQ rub, but I love it. Smoked Spanish Paprika is another favorite. I've tried most of their curries - and while all are excellent, I've found curries to be a very individual thing - so their sample packs might be a good place to start with these.
