I'm in law school, so I'm aware it's not on me. It's a generous decision, I can assure you, because we're on a 2 year lease with fixed rental prices. And yes, I know I won't get paid for it. I'm okay with that. For the most part, it's just making my living space a little nicer and homey for me. For those sorts of things, I'm willing to eat the cost. Plus, I can't do any DIY work if I don't pay a few shekels.

But I do appreciate your concern. Reddit is good for that.

Not a dumb question, though you sound like my father.

The owner is actually a super cool guy. He's fixing some of the major stuff, and also is cool enough to be putting in granite countertops, just for shits and giggles. The small stuff, though, is more on us, and frankly I don't mind, because I love to fix things, and this gives me an excuse to start building my tool collection. Home Depot is getting tons of my business.

In a dual major program, you only graduate with one degree, but with two concentrations. For example, you will graduate with a BA in both Literature and History.

A dual degree program, you will get two separate degrees. These programs are more common for graduate school (MD/PhD, JD/MPH, etc.), but I guess you could enroll in a dual degree program like BA/Masters.

I was in New Orleans for a Convention, and some friends of mine and I started walking to some random restaurant. We started walking through what appeared to be a movie set, but we had no idea what it was. We just wanted food.

Turned out to be the set of "Treme." Right outside the restaurant was John Goodman wearing an all-white sweatsuit. He was either high or drunk. We took a picture with him. He was kinda a dick.

The rescue I work with charges $350 for dogs, $400 for puppies, and if someone adopts a HW positive dog, I think it's $300. Our rates are pretty high, compared to others, but that's because the costs fully cover vetting across the board. One of the dogs (being adopted tomorrow), will bring in $350, but we've spent somewhere around $500 on her vet bills. So basically, other adoption fees will help cover that.

I say all of that to say that $900 is absolutely ridiculous. Spend a little more, and you can get a purebred with papers. We've adopted out mutts and purebred AKC dogs-- all for the same price. Like you said, it's about the dog. The rescue fees just go to cover costs, and $900 seems excessive.

Personally, yes. What they're doing sounds patently illegal to me (but I don't know your state's specific laws). Yes, the case could potentially fail, but it seems like your wife is in the right, and is being exploited. That's what the law is here for; compensating those who are wronged.

No, i think they will. She can just say something like:

"I'll be honest, yes I sued them. They were forcing me to work off the clock under threat of termination, and that's not only immoral, but illegal. I promise I'm not a troublemaker, but when I am being illegally threatened by my employer, I could not sit idly by."

I think most people would have a degree of empathy for that.
