Actually, heroin probably does cure diarrhea. I had to take percocet after surgery, once, and I don't think I pooed for a week.

What I mean is: what's really relevant is what's going on in all of the functions that are being called in analyzeUser(). But cool. Cool, cool, cool.

You're obviously well within your right not to share the code, but what's the point of posting a bunch of function calls?

I went to /r/WhiteRights and RES-tagged all the mods and top submitters.

100% of the content in /r/blackpanther comes from /r/WhiteRights regulars. In fact, many of the /r/WhiteRights mods are also /r/blackpanther mods.

Easier does not mean easy.

It's easier to climb Mount Everest if you have the best equipment and a well-funded expedition. It is not easy to climb Mount Everest.

minor drama in r/skeptic as post about the supposed fluoride conspiracy reveals a fairly large amount of conspiracy believers. by alpalpharrellin SubredditDrama

[–]sushisushisushi 2 points3 points ago

Radical skepticism is a legitimate (if debatable) epistemological position.

I believe that you may be thinking of a crank*, crackpot, or kook. A crank is often skeptical of every position but his or her own:

Cranks characteristically dismiss all evidence or arguments which contradict their own unconventional beliefs, making rational debate a futile task; this is the essential defining characteristic of the crank: being impervious to facts, evidence, and rational inference.

Cranks are common amongst conspiracy theorists and pseudo-scientists; thus, they are quite common on the Internet in general.

Being an adult affords me the full range of behavioral options a child has, plus those an adult has. In other words, I get to choose whatever behavior I present.

That has got to be the most childish, asinine view of adulthood I've seen in a while.

Yesterday's admin support the troops blog post is about to go into the negatives. Bonus: Erik Martin responds to propaganda conspiracy theorists. by anony666in SubredditDrama

That's still not a straw man. That's just him stating how he sees a certain subset of the population--namely, people who blame soldiers for foreign policy. That's his view of the "average redditor" (in his own words). It may be a stupid view, it may be an inaccurate view, it may not be a legitimate view, but it is not a logical fallacy.

In order for there to be a straw man, there has to be something called the "average redditor" that has a particular position that is being purposefully misrepresented. But that's not the case here. "I am opposed to the Occupy movement because I don't support all the principles of Marxism" is a straw man. "I think the average Redditor is a fuckface because they are stupid heads" is not.

You're welcome to draw those kinds of implications from his post. But that does not make his "argument" a straw man, no more than it would make you drawing those kinds of implications a "straw man." Otherwise, it could descend, as Internet arguments do, into people endlessly accusing each other of logical fallacies when in fact they simply disagree.

A caricature is not a straw man. An exaggeration is not a straw man. In fact, it's virtually impossible that aboynamedsu could have built a straw man, because it's pretty obvious that he's simply stating his opinion.

A straw man is a willful misrepresentation of a position. It's a pretty specific kind of informal fallacy, and the term 'straw man' is thrown around way too much on the Internet when what people really mean is 'I don't like how you're describing x'.

I don't see how limiting how many ounces of liquid you can bring on a commercial airplane constitutes oppression. It might be an unnecessary security measure, but it's hardly oppression.
