Android and Linux re-merge into one operating system by Tanglesomein opensource

[–]suridaj 16 points17 points ago*

Not merging into "one operating system", just getting some Android-specific code back into Linus' tree. Still, good to see the vanilla Linux kernel able to boot properly on Android devices.

A Case for Open-Source GPU Drivers by akgranerin linux

[–]suridaj 7 points8 points ago

More importantly, graphics card manufacturers also hire other companies to provide parts of their driver source code, and are legally not allowed to disclose it by default. If they somehow decide to open the specs and/or code, their lawyers and techies need to chew their way through tons of proprietary code as well as contracts to separate parts which can be open-sourced from those which can't. Google around for the slow (but steady) process of AMD opening the specs for their Radeons, which started way back in 2007.

Instead of the more common tone-mapping I tried exposure fusion with tufuse. The result is pretty tame, but in my experience it better captures what the eye "really" sees.

Of course. "_" can be read as "move along, nothing to see here". Using "t", "temp" or any other variable name might prompt someone to ask "huh, is this used later on?"... A matter of readability.
