Stalled on bench 4 times in a row, still lifting pretty light weights, before finally getting my 3x5 tonight. How can I avoid stalling again when I add 5 lbs? by reeseallenin weightroom

[–]supraspeed 2 points3 points ago

Your situation is actually really similar to what I was facing a few months ago. A few things helped:

1.) Incorporating more tricep work, specifically, learning how to do tricep extensions the right way: http://vimeo.com/25983467 (as explained by Rippetoe)

2.) Eating a lot. Once i found that I started eating a ton (eggs, whole milk, and lean chicken breast were the primary candidates), my bench has gone up by 15 pounds in the last month and a half. Granted, this came at the expense of higher bodyfat percentage.

3.) Check out this article for technical issues: http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/the_best_damn_bench_press_article_period

Page 2 has a lot of different things you can try out to see if specific areas of your bench are weak (e.g. eccentric phase, concentric phase, etc...)

Hope this helps!

Was going to say the same thing. Narrowing your feet a little bit may increase the leverage and give you a better pull.

Holy shit was I scared when Boozer took the inbounds pass...he's usually not even in the 4th quarter in these tight situations, let alone handling the ball. But then I was afraid after he got it that he might elect to shoot, but thank god he passed. And oh yeah, bench mob represent!

My first Indochino suit. All in all, extremely happy with it. I think the sleeves are a little short though. More in comments. by JDMcompliantin malefashionadvice

Awesome suit, awesome fit, all-around awesome. 2 questions: Where did you buy your suit, and also what kind of watch are you wearing?

I agree with what is posted above. In addition, try not to hyperextend your back. It looked sorta painful, actually. Just stand straight up, and bring it back down.

It was his first time against one of the most elite teams in the NBA, and just as teams have had to adjust to his new presence, he will have to learn from this and come back stronger next time. No need to draw outlandish conclusions. But goddamn, that Miami D was brutal.

Question regarding casein by supraspeedin Fitness

[–]supraspeed[S] 1 point2 points ago

They're both proteins and neither has been shown to be better than the other.

Well, certainly one is preferred over the other in terms of timing. Whey is used post-workout, as it provides you with an instant source of amino acids and peptides that are digested quickly. In terms of biological value, whey ranks the highest, as literally none of it is "wasted."

(via wiki) Biological value (BV) is a measure of the proportion of absorbed protein from a food which becomes incorporated into the proteins of the organism's body.

Whey protein concentrate: 104

Whole egg: 100

Cow milk: 91

Beef: 80

Casein: 77

Soy: 74

So I can't agree with you when you say neither is better/worse than the other. But yea, you're sort of right in your thinking that we can only control so much of nutrition, as the rest is really up to the body.

We wouldn't lose Deng, from what I've seen/heard from all the circulating rumors. It'd just be Boozer and CJ it looks like.

Can't stress this enough, but DON'T GIVE A SHIT WHAT OTHERS THINK. So many times I avoided going to the gym because I was fat...how idiotic, now that I think back on it.

Joe's on Tuesdays - $5 bugers! (if they're still doing this). Their burgers are pretty solid

And you should go to Blackdog for some great brisket meat. I'm pretty sure you can get it in a sandwich or burger. And if you've never been there, you need to stop whatever you're doing and go there. Now. Probably one of the best restaurants on campus

I had the most gains when I isolated various muscle groups.

Very interesting that you say this, as this goes against the philosophy that /r/fitness tends to preach. I guess I'd have to agree and disagree, as I believe that if you're new to lifting (as I was when I first started, and was very weak), a program such as SL/SS, that emphasizes compound lifts is more important than doing an isolation routine. But long term, you will certainly need some isolation work (as I have been recently learning) in order to see gains. For example, doing tricep work has helped increase my OHP and bench.

Strength should be one's primary focus first, and then I feel that aesthetics (size & looks) can more easily come once the former is well established.

Spiking pain when I try to do a dip by morgus2in Fitness

Dips cause the same sharp pain in my shoulder as well, which is why I tend to leave them alone. You should substitute different chest exercises for dips, in my opinion.
