You should attribute the quote to the band, not the vocalist. Brock shares writing credit with two other members on every song on that album.

So I found this 1983 Nintendo Handheld Console built in with Donkey Kong Jr, any info on what this is? by joebmxkid08in gaming

[–]stutheidiot 7 points8 points ago

That's G&W classic Donkey Kong. Only about 100 were ever made.

Actually that's the Game & Watch CJ-93. They made about 250,000 and it's valued around a hundred bucks.

The model numbers for the game are DJ-101, CJ-71, and CJ-93 for the New Wide Screen, Tabletop, and Panorama version, respectively. DJ stands for Donkey Kong Jr. while CJ stands for Color Jr. Nintendo manufactured 1,000,000 copies of the New Wide Screen version worldwide, though they only made 250,000 copies each of the other two.

A spindle of 100 CD-Rs costs twenty bucks and holds 70G. 28cents/GB.

A 500GB USB HD is 80 bucks. 16cents/GB, and you are spared 700 tedious manual insert/select/burn/eject cycles.

Conditioned reflex, not instinct.

Instincts are shared by every member of a species, without any training or learning. Holding your breath underwater, turning to see the source of a loud noise, curling your fingers around something to grab it, those are instincts.

Martial arts stances are learned reactions, people need to drill repeatedly to make them reflexive like this.

just take your foot off the accelerate and the car will slow down...

I used to think this too, until I borrowed my friend's old Buick for a couple days. Cruising along a flat interstate at 68mph, feet off the pedals... look down a minute later, 72mph... 72 is too fast for my comfort in an unfamiliar, huge lumbering boat like that. Had to give it a little brake every once in a while.

[–]stutheidiot 1 point2 points ago

You don't need a youth culture for youths to be apathetic and snarky.

Henry Bexwyx, and Johanne his widow, who founded a school at Manchester in 1524, give as their reason for so doing that "the children of the county of Lancaster have pregnant wits, but that they have for the most part been brought up rudely and idly, and not in virtue, cunning, erudition, literature, or good manners.

  • Walter Gale, 1750

The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress.

  • Peter the Hermit, 1274

I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words. When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of restraint.

Why does the secret santa hate letter have no fold in it? by MichiganMan2in AskReddit

[–]stutheidiot 23 points24 points ago

"God" isn't a proper noun

In the context of Abrahamic religions, it is. Look up any definition of a proper noun. Wikipedia's article on proper nouns covers this case specifically:

A proper noun or proper name is a noun representing a unique entity... The common noun god denotes any deity from any religion, whereas the proper noun God references a specific monotheistic God.

It's a simple rule that doesn't require any religious or historic debate. God in this context doesn't get any more special treatment than a car model named the Rabbit or a city named Paradise. The rules on proper nouns are clear.

Why does the secret santa hate letter have no fold in it? by MichiganMan2in AskReddit

[–]stutheidiot 18 points19 points ago*

Even if you're not a Christian, it's grammatically correct to capitalize God, He/Him, Lord, etc when referring to the Abrahamic God.

Mostly wrong. God is capitalized referring to the Abrahamic God because it objectively meets the criteria for a proper noun, as it refers to a unique entity, fictional or not. Lord is capitalized because it is an honorific, thus grammar dictates that it be.

The commandments in the Bible don't define grammar, these simple rules do.

Capitalizing the pronouns he/him is a Christian tradition only, not dictated by grammar. Quite the contrary, established dictionaries and style guides specifically state that this is incorrect. The Grammar Girl did a nicely-researched article on this and cites the following sources dictating that the pronouns he/him are not to be capitalized:

Not really. Halon production was banned by the Montreal Protocol treaty in 1989 and both production and import were banned by the US EPA in 1994 (existing systems are grandfathered in). In Europe even the use of halon, not just production/import, is banned. It would be hard to find a data center still using Halon.

I think the Project Reality mod for BF2 got this right - to pilot an aircraft, you need a pilot's kit that has only a sidearm (+binocs, singalling grenade, shovel). The idea of fitting a shoulder-fired missile launcher in the cockpit with you is just ridiculous. Being able to fly to a strategic location and eject from an aircraft while still being just as well-equipped as the infantry on the ground is absurd and throws off the game balance, as evidenced by OP's link.

Also, the pilot kit is rightly the only one that includes a chute.

I'm saying NPR did and does cover the Tea Party movements, but not until after they gained a lot more momentum than this movement, and even then they were initially critical.

All the resentment over NPR's failure to do backflips over the Occupy Wall Street movement seems terribly misguided to me.

Sure they do. To be fair, by the time they started coverage the demonstrations were orders of magnitude larger than the Occupy Wall Street movement.

The earliest reference by NPR I could find was this one two months into the movement, belittling and dismissing them. Seems like a farce to claim there's some inconsistency in NPR's coverage of the two movements.

Hyperbolic stereotypes work both ways. If the Tea Party demonstrations are a couple hicks in hats, the Occupy Wall Street protests are a couple of miscreants in Guy Fawkes masks.
