Sonic doesn't usually lease DSL anymore, not in the way you're implying. In most of the major CO's around the bay area, they've installed their own equipment as a CLEC, so they lease the local copper loop but connect their own ADSL2+ equipment to it. This is called their Fusion service.

$40/mo for up to 20mbps (technically 25, but they don't mention that since most people don't get above 20), including real POTS analog voice services with free nationwide long distance. I think it stands up nicely to the price/performance of Comcast's offerings.

Plus they're local and geek-friendly.

But you'd be better off long-term if you kept the goose alive so it kept producing golden eggs and kept trading them on the open market.

No worries, I wasn't so much miffed at you as I was at the author of the original article. The author's lead paragraph was completely misleading, because it brought up Monsanto and the FDA even though the rest of the piece had nothing to do with that. I think the author was hoping to channel your overflow rage in exactly the way it worked out. :-)

It's clear Monsanto and the government (primarily the FDA) are in bed together. But this article offers absolutely no link between this DOJ action against this dairy farmer and anything about Monsanto or the FDA. It's like the author just stamped MONSANTO! FDA! on an article that had nothing to do with either. It strikes me as link-bait.

The headline had me all excited that it would be yet more fuel I could use against Monsanto and the FDA. I was sadly disappointed.

The situation being reported totally sucks, but just because the federal government does something shitty to a small farmer doesn't mean Monsanto and the FDA were behind it. That Monsanto/FDA angle might fit better in /r/conspiracy .

This is so much better than the typical mom-and-new-baby picture, because they're usually taken within an hour or two of delivery with the mom still wearing a hospital gown and looking completely bedraggled and exhausted.

I think the trick is to stay in the hospital's post-delivery mother-and-baby unit for as many hours as your insurance will cover you for, then shower, do your hair and makeup, get in your street clothes, and then take the "mom and baby in hospital" pictures just before you head home.

Sad that Nevada put down BJ's, which is a California pizza chain that poses like a brewery-restrauant (complete with fake copper brewery equipment on display), but doesn't actually have a brewery on-site anywhere anymore as far as I can tell. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have any breweries in Nevada.

There's a whole TED Talk about how some people apparently tie their shoes in a way that the knot always comes untied all the time, especially with dress shoes' short leather shoelaces.

Basically, if the loops of the top knot want to go vertical -- towards your leg and toe -- as opposed to side-to-side across your shoe, then you've been tying your shoes wrong.

I got my first ride in a Tesla Roadster a few weeks ago. Its acceleration is so amazing it is like all boost all the time. Also, the pure fast acceleration is not interrupted by shifting. It's just zero to oops-I-crapped-my-pants in no seconds flat.
