Network Admin with no desktop experience by TacoEngineerin networking

I usually find that Network guys tend to have a really good grasp of how most systems work, servers, desktops, shares, applications, backups etc.. However, does not work the other way round, the amount of server and desktop OS "experts" I encounter that don't know a thing about networks is astounding. Also scary.

As far as I can tell they are lumps of rock on the left and right, which you can see some scorching, and I think the one in the middle is a piece of ceramic roof ridge tile, or maybe pipe, but you can definitely see some signs of intense heat on the closeup of it.

Yeah they would sweep the mines in pairs (two ships underway in parallel with a cable strung between them) this would drag the mines up to the surface where the guys on deck would shoot them with their Enfield .303's to trigger the mines (I take it they must have been percussion triggered rather than magnetic)
