Has a driver ever lined up in the wrong grid position or stopped too far out of the box? by xeetonin formula1

[–]spambot419 17 points18 points ago

In Mika Hakkinen's first race he was starting from 24th. During the warm-up lap the guy starting ahead of him in 22nd pulled off. when they got back to the grid, a grid marshal mistakenly tried to beckon Mika to take up the empty slot ahead of him. But the young Finn knew he'd be disqualified if he did and stayed where he was, even though the marshal was delaying the race at this point...Why is my brain filled with things like this?

You're offered $1 billion to cut-off your own hand, but you can only use the implements in the room you're currently in, and you only have one hour. Would you do it, and how would you do it? by lifeguardoflovein AskReddit

[–]spambot419 0 points1 point ago

Alright; let's say I'm in a room with a table saw, my buddy's there, and there's a bottle of Jack in the corner.

We do nothing for the first half hour, but then I down the whiskey, vomit and pass out. My buddy (who I've promised $10million) calls an ambulance, waits a few minutes, applies a tourniquet, then cuts my arm off with the table saw and stuffs it into a bag of ice just as the ambulance arrives.

Yeah, i'd totally do that.

I agree with you on Galway Bay's own brews, but they do stock a great range as well.

Craft beer in Ireland? by erictetiin beer

[–]spambot419 0 points1 point ago

We have a burgeoning craft beer scene here in Ireland. The Galway Bay Brewery is a micro brewer based in Galway that run three pubs around the Galway area, and three more in Dublin; you'll find their own brews along with a load of international and craft beers. The only one of their places that I've been to myself is Against The Grain in Dublin, which also has a nice selection of whiskeys.

Also in dublin you'll find three pubs run by The Porterhouse brewing company. They make some fantastic beers themselves and they also carry a huge range of international beers.

Other than those there are a quite a few more places than there used to be that sell at least a limited range of world and craft beers. So in Dublin these days, even the most vaguely trendy pubs and bars will likely have one or more weis beers on tap and maybe a bottled ale or two.

The Falklands War was fought between Britian and Argentina in 1982 when Argentina invaded the British-controlled Falkland Islands which are in the South Atlantic Ocean. The tourists we're Germans visiting the Falklands apparently.

Hey ents, I just want to say that I'm proud of all of you for calling OP on his bullshit. Well, in the comments at least.

He's probably some troll trying to make trees look like a bunch of circle-jerking morons, and as of now 478 upvoters have unfortunately proven him right.

Or he's a misguided dope that doesn't realise this sort of crap is bad for the community, the decriminalisation movement, and the world in general.

Apparently a fridge in team Lotus' installation caught fire and did quite some damage by tiag0in formula1

Please give me some backstory to this pic. Micheal, having knocked over a fridge, wearing an open toyota shirt, smoking a cigar, presumably drunk; I can make sense of that, even if it is a bit WTF, but where? why?... Also, is that Adrian Newey talking to who I think is Toyota's motorsport chief?

It's not as though drivers didn't raise concerns about it, though. Tony Kanaan spent the entire run-up to the Las Vegas race talking about how 34 cars on a 1.5-mile track was pretty much a recipe for someone to get killed. I'm sure he wishes he hadn't been right.

That much I did know. It seemed risky beforehand, but the full lunacy of it came into sharp focus pretty quickly.

Holy shit...You could see in the footage that it was the fence, and I guessed it was a post, but I did not know about that fence design.

There's accidents and there's bad luck, but that's just fucked up. Why was it made like that in the first place?

Yeah, the helmets might look similiar to the ones in use 20 years ago but they aren't comparable in terms of strength and safety.

Yeah, a wheel with the hub still attached, and Wheldon by a wall/fence. I'm getting at the fact that things, moving or immovable, big or tiny, can enter the driver area and cause catastrophic injury.

Luck still plays a deciding roll in the faith of drivers sometimes; a foot to the right and that wheel would have just ended Henrys race day, an inch lower and that tiny spring would have snuffed out Filipes life.

They are extremely safe; they can withstand massive impacts like Kubica's crash in Canada or Alonso's in Brazil in 2003. Pretty much every driver currently on the grid has had an accident at some point in their career that they trotted nonchalantly away from, that would have killed them in the 60's or 70's.

But unexpexted things can and will happen: Massa was less than an inch from instant death in Hungary in 2009, he was lucky. But Henry Surtees didn't get so lucky when debris entered his cockpit area. The Formula 2 car he was in had been designed to match the safety requirements of the 2005 Formula 1 regulations, so the same accident could have easily taken place in F1 in recent years, but it didn't.

If part of the track scenery or any object comes too close to the open area of the cockpit, bad things can and will happen. This type of scenario killed Ayrton Senna 18 years ago, Henree Surtees 3 years ago, Dan Wheldon last year and very nearly Filipe Massa 3 years ago.

So sometimes, in an unfortunate stroke of luck, weird circumstances can circumvent all of the amazing safety improvements that have made their way into single seater racing. It's tragic, but the FIA continues to learn and implement changes as a result of these accidents.

I think you and I, at a base level, might feel the similiarly about this. The natural complection of a womens skin, the slight natural imperfections and deviations create something that is very beautiful, and when it is covered over with one single tone, one monotonous hue, whether it's orange or anything the fuck else, it neuters some of the natural beauty of that person.

I see what you mean mate; I'm lucky enogh that my gf is naturally tanned, but if I was with a very light skinned girl that just needed to be tanned somehow, I'd cope with the orangeness in place of her putting herself on a sunbed all the time.
