Any way to make a "relative" volume automation? by flowerflower12in Logic_Studio

[–]sock_champion 5 points6 points ago

Hit "A" to open up automation. Hold Command and drag up or down on the yellow volume meter (see this image.)to adjust the relative volume.

Edit: updated image to be more specific :)

Shout-out to the Tuesday open mic at Helium by EveryFlyingThingin Portland

[–]sock_champion 0 points1 point ago

I paid close to $70 for two "reserved" seats for Craig Robinson a few months back at Helium. When my date and I got there we were seated at a table just barely larger than a dinner plate. It didn't seem too bad until they seated two more people at our table. We were so squished in there that I couldn't move my arms.

Have to use the bathroom? Don't bother getting up unless you want to be taunted by the comic on stage. I don't mind when comics lay into someone heckling them but giving me shit because I have to take a piss? No thanks.

No experience with GIMP but i managed to get a pretty reasonable thing together for an EP for a dub techno/deep house ep. Thoughts? by Alterioridin edmproduction

You should clean the sky and the water up - remove all the little bits that add unnecessary visual noise to the image. The image fades to an unpleasant finish towards the edges so you should spend some time burning those in a bit to bring the focus to the center and to make the palette more dynamic. Adding a subtle gradient with a layer state like multiply will also help even out the color blending you've done to the sky and tie the whole thing together.

Hey Logic Users, what are some free must have AU's? by Tripleggg694in edmproduction

I can't get this to show up in Logic (9.1.7, 64-bit). I tried rescanning with the AU Manager but no luck. Am I missing something?

16GB of RAM in a mid-2011 Mac Mini w/ i5 processor? by sock_championin applehelp

Wow, good to know! thanks. So looks like my machine might benefit from 16GB after all.

Here is a screenshot of Activity Monitor while Logic is running. It looks like I am nearly maxing out my RAM (7.64GB used) while my CPU is at 128% (can that be right?).

Fair enough! :) It's true I could be biased but I don't drive or own a bike. I am strictly a bus/max/street car/walking/taxi dude.

you realize that your claim that my observations are biased is a confirmation bias of its own? ;)

What bias? I said I see cars ignoring bike boxes and bikes blowing stop signs. I'm not placing blame on drivers or cyclists, only pointing out that both groups ignore laws put in place to protect them.

Yup, I see this more often than I see cars stopping in bike box areas.

I see this a lot regardless of location. Drivers frequently disregard the bike boxes.

There are green bike areas on the corner of 3rd and Madison. It's not clear from the article who was at fault.

Thank you. When I read that comment I thought it sounded odd but I only know enough about hardware to know I don't really know much.

Tips for cutting down CPU usage? by sock_championin Logic_Studio

Can you explain further? If I set the buffer higher (currently at 256) the latency goes up as well. Since I use MIDI fairly frequently what would be the advantage in this?

What do you mean by having it tested using Activity Monitor? How would I go about doing that?

The reason I ask is I found a comment on Apple's forum where a guy says he's running Logic on a Mac Mini with 16GB and he saw no difference between 8GB and 16GB because the Mini lacks the proper CPU power to utilize that extra 8GB. I'm no hardware expert so I'm not sure if that's true...

https://discussions.apple.com/message/17864090#17864090

When i stuck 16gig of Ram in mine there was no performance boost with Logic 9 at all, so i went back to 8gig of Ram. You need a CPU as fast as the server Quad core 2.0 i7 macmini to make use of the other 8 gig of Ram.

It's usually pretty stressed when I'm running almost any instrument from NI. What I've been doing is recording an instrument and then bouncing it down to audio and then deleting the strip with Kontact or whatever. That works but it's kind of a pain if I want to go back and make changes since it's no longer MIDI.

Thanks! I've got a mid-2011 Mac Mini with 8GB of RAM at the moment. After some googling it looks like it can handle up to 16GB. Would I see a significant decrease in CPU usage if I upgraded?

You can use Time Machine to back up your system onto your 1TB HD. It's meant for backing up all your files. There might be a way to tell it to only back up Logic's files but you might as well back up everything.

Here's how to set it up.
