Welcome to your California Traffic Code. Please pay specific attention to the last two sentences. by NickDimesin California

Also "to the fullest extent of the resources made available to it" always gives them an out. They just point the finger at Sacramento and blame it on the budget (regardless of how efficiently it's being spent).

Are you really surprised that a community of atheists also happen to be big fans of Douglas Adams?

Classic Ron Swanson by sillywalrusin funny

[–]smthngclvr 12 points13 points ago

Well he's playing off of the term "surf n' turf", which is usually a steak and some kind of seafood. Ron Swanson doesn't bother with that nonsense, he just eats two steaks. I think the type of steaks aren't supposed to be important.

It's legal armageddon as NBC, CBS and Fox sue Dish Network over its new DVR feature allowing users to automatically skip ads, and in response, Dish sues them right back - and adds in ABC for good measure. by DrJulianBashirin technology

[–]smthngclvr 1 point2 points ago

If ABC didn't already have plans to sue, they would have as soon as the networks made even the slightest bit of progress in the courts. I'd say it was a pretty savvy move to include them in the declaratory judgment.

Well, not much more suspicious than 90% of Miami Metro homicide suspects mysteriously vanishing only a few days after being cleared.

I really want to take this website seriously, but the glaring spelling and grammatical errors undermines it's (already stretched-thin) credibility.

I think most modern MMOs avoid archetypical fantasy names specifically because WoW has made them so popular. If an MMO comes out with Elves and Dwarves and Gnomes, they're going to get hit with accusations of being a WoW-clone regardless of whether or not they do something unique or interesting with them.

Republican rep.: Church tax exempt restrictions is like communism | The Raw Story by btrflyin politics

[–]smthngclvr 1 point2 points ago

No, I didn't. The woman from the ACLU isn't saying that we should tax churches. She's saying we shouldn't give religious 501(c)(3)s special treatment (in this case, participation in political activities). All 501(c)(3)s are tax exempt, religious or not.

A republican compares something he doesn't like to communism?

So, a typical Thursday.

Republican rep.: Church tax exempt restrictions is like communism | The Raw Story by btrflyin politics

[–]smthngclvr 1 point2 points ago

Uh, either you didn't read the article or you seriously missed the point. This representative is arguing that we should A) continue to allow churches to be tax exempt and B) allow only religious 501(c)(3)s to participate in political activities. So it would a step in the opposite direction.

Senator John McCain has introduced an amendment to the PDUFA to legalize drug importation from Canada. Other live discussions on the pharmaceutical "free" market live on CSPAN by March1989in politics

[–]smthngclvr 1 point2 points ago

It would be really nice if we could just let Medicare negotiate drug prices. Then it wouldn't be nearly as crucial to re-import them from Canada.

Apocalypse Soon: Has Civilization Passed the Environmental Point of No Return? by camilstoenescuin science

[–]smthngclvr 9 points10 points ago

Well I think its fair to say that scenario would be the end of the world as we know it. Even if we lost only two or three billion during a brief window, it would massively reshape our society at every level.

Four tons of marijuana in large bales were found bobbing off the Southern California coast, and authorities are still trying to determine where it came from. (Article) by bylinebeat10in Marijuana

[–]smthngclvr 1 point2 points ago

Well, that may be true, but it also kind of misses the point. Law enforcement bases their estimates on street-level, retail prices instead of wholesale prices. Sure you can buy big quantities for much cheaper than that, but I've bought weed from San Francisco to San Diego and I've never seen anyone selling gram bags of high quality buds for less than 10 dollars.

No, it won't become completely uninhabitable. But completely uninhabitable and uninhabitable for massive groups of self-destructive humans are two different things.

[–]smthngclvr 6 points7 points ago

That's cute.

Laws don't apply to lawmakers the same way they apply to regular folk. I wouldn't go so far as calling it a 'death threat', but it almost certainly can be seen as a call to incite violence against a specific group of people.

My dad used to live in the Bikini Atoll and they would find bales of weed and cocaine washing up on shore all the time. Smugglers will ditch their cargo when they think they'll be boarded (also known as: pulling a Solo). They called it salt-water weed!
