no no no no... see, you could have made that work if you had simply reply with "... the fuck ?" to express confusion at the parent comment, and imply that you're looking for an explanation, but to say "can you please fucking expand" comes across as either really angry (but that's clearly negated by the 'am I doing this right bit'), or just as forced swearing for the sake of it.

See if you can get "Once were warriors", and/or the sequel 'What becomes of the broken hearted', or actually.. the movie "Boy" (2010). They'll give you a great insight into small town New Zealand in the 80's, which is probably when a majority of people here were growing up.
