Tell me again why I have to connect to a server. Is this just DRM people like more than having some BS installed client side?

So I just won a free iPad from Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park. Anyone have any experience with Touch OSC or alternatives? by ch4rbokin edmproduction

[–]slippage 0 points1 point ago

What are you trying to control? Ableton? Are you running on Windows? I am guessing you are on a Mac because OSCulator is mac only last I checked. If that is the case you should be able to set up Touch OSC without any trouble or extra software. This was what I used when I played around with it. Hexler.net should have some more links too

Does anyone use Ozone 5 to master? If yes, how do you use it? by DavronMin edmproduction

[–]slippage 0 points1 point ago

I don't use Ozone but after seeing the visual guide from this post a while back http://www.reddit.com/r/edmproduction/comments/fgifm/rchetypes_poorly_illustrated_guide_to_mastering/ it made me want to get it. Again, I like the specific nature and the pictures.

I have wanted to get Konkreet Performer but don't have any excuse to get it since I have touch OSC and I don't use that. I would say the only thing that sets Lemur apart is the physics on the xy control that you can set to have gravity.

In theory they should all be easy to set up but depending on your situation, it can be more difficult. Mac has a much easier time setting up a dedicated port for it vs Windows you have to get something like midiox/midiyoke to get the OSC messages to midi (for Ableton at least).

Dubspot has a tutorial on a lot of the different mac interfaces on youtube so you could just try googling the ones mentioned in this thread with "dubspot" too.

Fantastic Mr Fox - San'en (feat. Alby Daniels) [Upcoming EP] by Ph0Xin futuregarage

damn just came here after belatedly listening to the xlr8r mix to say that THIS is what I want the future of dance music to sound like. Beautiful development of a song without compromising dancefloor compatibility. No wonder it has taken him so long to come out with anything new, this track is genius. I am going to be taking it into my DAW and using it to learn from.

while I personally enjoy this track a lot, I find it interesting (amusing?) that this sub is so comprehensive in what gets put in here. All I know is that I like the majority of the tracks on here better than I do on futurebeats or electronicmusic even though two tracks can be polar opposites.

Childism: The Unacknowledged Prejudice Against Kids by My-Work-Redditin TrueReddit

[–]slippage 1 point2 points ago

I agree most of the examples mentioned in the article fall under the umbrella of other kinds of abuse. When the author talks about the three roots of abnormality his patients describe

1) to eliminate or destroy children, 2) to make them play roles no child should play or 3) to dominate them totally, narcissistically erasing their identities.

These all just seem like forms of child abuse, presumably perpetrated by the caretaker, rather than a widespread prejudice against children.

From google:

Racism: The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races

It doesn't sound much like "child" could be exchanged with "race" here. The idea is more like children are mistreated because they are helpless not because of a belief about some inherent characteristic of being a child.

What are some practical uses for the haas effect? by thenoizehoundin edmproduction

I like this dubspot tutorial from minimal techno pt2: space and dimension:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3eXoo3Azcc&t=4m0s

this is the simplest way to get the effect right there with a stereo delay set at 100% wet with the left delay set to as low as it will go and the right set to ~10-20ms. Maybe you already know this much but it is amazing to me how easily it can be produced and what a difference it makes in the sound. I suppose you could set some sort of automation to it as well with a highpass filter. . . that could be cool. The rest of the tutorial including part 1 is pretty good even if you don't do minimal but it is pretty Ableton specific.

Maybe this doesn't fit in this subreddit, but it made me say "WOW!" A TR-707 with original boxs, styrofoam, plastic wrap, and manuals! by noiddddin synthesizers

reminds me of when I learned about circuit bending in college and promptly shorted the ROM chip on the TR 505 I just ordered off ebay. It had a bad kick drum anyway . .. :(

Hey, guys! I was told to post this here: I compiled Max 5 documentation into one MOBI file (for e-readers). I hope you find it useful and practical! by jarxgin MaxMSP

[–]slippage 0 points1 point ago

I actually have been looking for something like this thanks a lot. I am trying to use it on my Droid with Cool Reader and the whole 6k+ pages is having a heavy toll on it making it basically unreadable. Is this file just too big for a phone (dual core 1gb memory) or am I using a shitty reader?

[–]slippage 0 points1 point ago

Speaking of return tracks, why is it that the level of my reverb is quieter when I have it 100% wet on a return and 100% send from my track compared to when i just have it 100% wet directly on the track?

I am sure there are other people on here that find noise relaxing. Especially in strange environments, I like to listen to Merzbow to help me fall asleep like on an airplane. The brain can just tune out and not worry about entraining on any melodies or attending to outside stimulation.

Good to hear someone else talk about the "iterations" method. You definitely do not want to listen to something so much you stop hearing it.

This seems like a good test:

  • certain modulator waveforms have (almost) no effect. With true FM, if you modulate the carrier with a low-pitched square wave, you'll get alternating pitch as a result - that's straightforward. With PM... nothing but clicks.

Keep at it, the results are very rewarding when you finally get it. The key is subtlety; a little goes a long way.
