TROPHY CASE

EA Beats Estimates, 1.7 million SWTOR subs on 2 million units sold by Sraymanin swtor

[–]slinky317 0 points1 point ago

Um, rounding is not fudging... it's rounding. As long as they don't mislead an investor, rounding is allowed in the world of earnings statements. It makes things simpler - if they were using rounding to deceive people, then that would be illegal.

In the Q&A and prepared statements, they said they currently had 1.7m subscribers.

So you feel it's wrong to assume that they're not fudging the numbers, but that it's okay to assume that they are?

They're actually quite clear on both of those things. In an earnings statement, public companies can get into deep shit if they get "creative" on anything.

Read the follow-up Q&A and prepared statements. It's clear that the 1.7m active subscriptions is a current number.

From the Q&A:

Q: Are these 1.7 subscribers paying?

A: Active subscribers means anyone paying or in their trial period. Most of those 1.7m are paying at this point

From Frank Gibeau's prepared statement:

... we have sold through two million units of the game since December. We currently have a little over 1.7 million active subscribers.

It's not from the report, it's from the Q&A, where they state that most of the 1.7m are paying at this point; also, Frank Gibeau's prepared statement says they currently have a little over 1.7m active subscriptions.

From the Q&A session, a question was asked and they answer that most of the 1.7m are paying at this point. Also, Frank Gibeau's prepared statement says that they currently have 1.7m active subscribers.

We really have no way of knowing when those numbers were taken or how much fudging they may have involved.

You do know how much of a shitstorm they can get in if they "fudged" the numbers, right? This is a publicly traded company releasing an official earnings report. They wouldn't be fudging numbers.

Zero Punctuation: Star Wars the Old Republic by Halefirein swtor

That was part of it, but there was supposed to be other treasures in there that the Smuggler could keep.

I wish they just would have explained that the "other treasure" was just a vast amount of information on other crime syndicates in the galaxy. That way it would explain why the player doesn't get immensely rich yet also why it would still be valuable. They could they turn that around and use it against Rogun, Voidwolf, etc in the later missions.

What is one cliché movie technique that you never get sick of? by wicked_observerin AskReddit

When I was a kid, I remember watching a TV-movie remake of War of the Worlds that was entirely fake news footage (complete with the "This is not real" disclaimers between commercial breaks). I thought it was the coolest thing ever, but I had to go to bed before it was over. I can't remember the name of it and I've tried desperately to find it, but no luck.

Why is the creative direction for most Star Wars stuff so awful? [Not trolling] by polynomialsin StarWars

I'll believe it when I see it. If Lucas is involved, he'll find a way to slip Jedi in there, even if they were all supposedly killed after Episode III.

One thing in particular that bothers me is how every little detail of the original movies has to be exaggerated into something canonical. The technology of the galaxy has not really changed or improved in THOUSANDS of years since the beginning of the Republic? The Imperial soldiers are still wearing basically the same uniforms, and flying basically the same ships for millennia?

Well, it may be the Old Republic, but it's Star Wars... and it has to look like Star Wars. And there's a little bit if suspension of disbelief here... if I'm willing to accept the Force and lightsabers and all that, I'll accept that technology didn't really move or advance.

That being said, I hate the way the Jedi are the prominent figures in almost all the Star Wars movies, games, etc. I mean, there are only supposed to be what, like a couple hundred of them across the galaxy? Why do they pop up EVERYWHERE?

I'd like to see a live action TV show following a smuggler Han Solo-esque character that rarely sees Jedi. Sure, throw them in every now and then, but I want to see the life of a normal day-to-day spacer in the SW universe. Like Firefly meets Star Wars.

The way that's "justified" is that the Nexus is an LTE phone, but the iPhone isn't. Verizon's LTE phones are usually priced at $299.

The game doesn't look like crap running in DX9 - in fact, you can barely notice it. There's very little that DX10/11 adds over DX9. DX10 was mainly a ploy to get people to buy Vista.

ICS: Is WiFi sleep mode broken when switching between different access points? by Shreddain AndroidQuestions

[–]slinky317 0 points1 point ago

I think the problem isn't with WiFi sleep mode, but rather with ICS keeping phones awake longer than necessary. It's an issue that's been seen and maybe why your WiFi isn't shutting off...

But then my combat music will be blaringly loud while the ambient will be normal volume.

This needs to be done by Bioware, and they need to normalize all the music volume. And give us a damn Loop Music toggle.
