Public or Private? by 7Pedazosin Teachers

[–]slightlyincognito 0 points1 point ago

I've worked both. I worked at a public Montessori and a private Montessori.

The pay is incredibly low in private and the benefits are not that great. But....I enjoy my job immensely. I work with incredible people and we are able to collaborate on projects and lessons. I have incredible freedom in the classroom. I follow projects and curriculum that is inspired by the students rather than pre-determined by the school or state. I have parent volunteers who each give over 50 hours of time to the school each year. The school puts all of the tuition money towards enriching the school. The students have incredible equipment and technology in the classroom. The schools provide an abundance of materials for the school. The school lunches are healthy and organic. The school pays for 10-15 field trips per class per year, which includes a 3-4 day overnight trip to some of the most incredible outdoor education programs across the country.

I love working at a private school!

you are so disillusioned...

I do not have a 3 month vacation! The last day of school is June 18th. I am required to spend the following dates cleaning and turning down the classroom. Then beginning June 25th-July 20th I am required to attend a training course. That means I sit in class from 8am-5pm, taking notes on professional development and teaching.

And seeing as how I need to have an entire plan for the new school year; this requires hours of planning and sitting at home in front of my computer.

I am required to return to school Monday, August 20th.....so excuse me for taking 4 weeks off a year!

I'm required to work 8-4, but I usually work 8am-8pm. Not to mention that every other Monday I have a faculty meeting from 3:30pm-5pm and every other Tuesday a meeting 8am-9am. Thursday afternoons are reserved for parents and then of course there's always an hour of tutoring time available as well. Summer break is the only real break and even that is only 4 weeks long. I make $28k, I could show you my pay stub if you don't believe it. I earn every bit of that money!

while I have students who dress like this right now and have no issues with it, nor does the culture of my school, I must say that you need to take into consideration that teachers are forced to comply with school policies. So if not telling you to go home to put some clothes on jeopardizes my job, then you can bet I'm sending you home.

I teach because two weeks ago I had a free writing exercise; the students listened to sounds and wrote about the thoughts that came to them while listening. I had a 4th grade student write a beautifully descriptive 1 page paper, with the opening line:

The waves rolled in along the sandy beach that stretched for miles. It brings a salty smell that mingles in the air.

I teach because the past few weeks, I have been focusing on students recognizing 'isms" after a student called another student a slave because of the color of her skin. I had my students act out skits about what various forms of prejudice look like. All this and you feel nothing is getting through, until you're on the playground and you see two of your students include a student with disabilities in their kickball game. They welcomed him, even let him pitch the ball. He pitched the ball 7 times in a row and none of them came near the home-plate but those two students kept cheering him on. When it was his turn to kick the ball, he kicked it but was tagged out causing him to have a total and complete melt down. Those students picked him up and wrapped their arms around him and comforted him. Moments like that make my heart smile,

I resent people who believe teachers are taking these extensive breaks. Two weeks off is nothing to go wild and crazy about in December. I spent half of if writing up report cards and putting together lessons for the upcoming weeks.

Secondly, all the teachers I work with are spending their Spring Break at various seminars around town on topics such as; bullying, dyslexia, technology in the classroom, and etc. I work 12 hours a day if not more, and I even work most Sundays.

And as for summer.....well I take 4 weeks! The rest of the time is spent planning and creating materials, cleaning, and writing curriculum. On top of heading to training programs and teaching seminars.

It's near impossible to take a day off during the school year, so if you're telling me that having 5 weeks of time off a year is unreasonable then you're insane! I'm paid a salary of $28k, and if you't believe I will be more than happy to show you my pay stub. I earn every penny of that money. I love my job, if I didn't I would never get shit on like this for that pathetic salary. Your child would be lucky to have a teacher like me. Someone who cares for their well-being and would put up with people like you.

[FP] Shirataki Alfredo (10g net carb)! Shrimp, Bacon, Spinach, Salami... by beginnerluckin keto

[–]slightlyincognito 1 point2 points ago

My first experience.....I opened the bag and was hit with a horrific fishy smell......I rinsed the noodles several times in cold water and the smell did not go away.....I proceeded and made a cheesy alfredo sauce from scratch and poured it over the noodles......OMG it was amazing!

Second time.....I tried brown butter and myzithra and it was so horrible and chewy...I ended up tossing it.....

Now I'm leary about giving it another go....

Easter Breakfast; Scotch Eggs with Asparagus and Hollandaise Sauce by slightlyincognitoin keto

[–]slightlyincognito[S] 0 points1 point ago

You just need hard boiled eggs, breakfast sausage, and thin slices of bacon. You form the sausage over the peeled hard boiled egg so that it makes a large ball. Then you wrap the ball with 2 thin strips of bacon. Place in the oven for 20 min. and a quick broil for 2 additional min.

It's not a pretty dish but......it's really tasty!

Keto (Induction) Flu by ggpwnkthxin keto

[–]slightlyincognito 1 point2 points ago

I just survived the Keto flu.....

I came down with it 5 days into induction. It was HELL!!!!! Four days with 102 fever, severe nausea resulting in hours upon hours of violent vomiting, and my body was so sore, I felt I had been beaten with a baseball bat and then hit by a car......and the headaches.....oh my

I just started feeling better and can finally eat again. I wouldn't wish the Keto flu on anyone!
