Probationary periods defer from agency to agency. Mine was 6months at one employer and 3 weeks at another.

Some of the older gents I worked with used to do Intracardiac Epi. He says that pericardiocentisis was in his scope back in the day but he never met anyone who did it in the field.

Question for NREMT-P cardiology: If you have a symptomatic patient with a 3rd degree HB, STEMI, and BBB, how do you treat? by amduggin ems

[–]silverman780 1 point2 points ago

Yes just watch the BP.

I would give:

ASA

Atropine, if no effect no effect.

Nitro,Possibly MS if the nitro didn't help with the chest pain

Call for a paragod to meet me enroute

Prep for Dopamine infusion and/or pacing depending so its nice and ready for the medic.

heres the thing about parking.
The mission of UO parking is to reduce the number of cars on campus in efforts to make the campus ready for when we go Carbon Neutral.

The way parking concerns are being treated is: it is what it is and we really don't want to change things. Why not build a parking structure with the GSH and the neuroscience institute? (extra 1000ish people on campus per day) Because they don't want cars on campus.

Are you allowed to restrain patients? by EmergencyMedicalin ems

[–]silverman780 0 points1 point ago

We can restrain. If there are handcuffs involved then the officer needs to ride with us. Otherwise its our rodeo.

Utilitarian EMS by Farfallain ems

[–]silverman780 1 point2 points ago

wouldn't work. Example: Dispatched for Sick person. arrive to find elderly pt. in bed looks like absolute death. Attach the monitor an lo and behold we have a bradycardia. So we stabilize and transport. So in your system a cab would have responded and most likely pushed the pt to get out of bed and out of the house resulting in a now dead patient.

I work in a rural system yes some calls take 15 minutes plus to get there. However we have had saves before where the statistics said we shouldn't have. So ask yourself would you want people to at least try to help you? Or just leave you to die?

The best thing you can learn while your a basic is that we don't decide what an emergency is. The patient does. This is EMS blasphemy but if a drug addict is going through withdrawals that can be a serious condition in their eyes. We are here to serve and help not judge and ignore.
