Is it common for Americans to not take their shoes off when entering a house? by rowdyonthevexin AskReddit

[–]shatteredjack -1 points0 points ago

I only know one person who takes his shoes off as a policy and he's Indian, so it's cultural habit. If I have settled in for the night, I'll switch to flannel pants and take my shoes off. Other than that, if the first thing I did when I went to someones house was to take off my shoes, I would definitely be considered odd.

No, that's not how it works. In the absence of any other factors, colonic motility will regulate to clock time pretty easily. However, many medications will disrupt this. Keep in mind that a surprising large proportion of neurons manage the GI tract. Keeping moisture content, ph and all the other variable in their proper proportions is a complex task. It should therefore be obvious why so many medications that effect neurotransmitters have colonic side effects. Caffeine encourages motility- i.e. the 'coffee shits'. SSRIs tend to cause constipation.

That being said, if you are supplementing your fiber levels back to something historically reasonable for the human body- when it's time, IT'S TIME. The colon has a mind of it's own. I would go as far as to say it IS a mind of it's own. Like a symbiont. When it asks you to do the deed, you should consider the request in the same way as when the police officer 'asks' you to step out of the vehicle.

OK, fine. It's from the Frasier episode "Guess Who's Coming To Breakfast". His dad says - "For people of my generation, sex is private thing between you and the person you're doing to!"

The only reasonable conclusion that can be drawn is that this kid needs a welder and a few more deck mowers.

[–]shatteredjack 0 points1 point ago

Late to the thread, but regardless- I have talked to several individuals who are doing just that. The thing to know about SP2010 is that it's not a big monolithic thing. It's a group of web services. It is totally possible to throw away all of the built in templates and navigation and build your site using all the various SP services on the backend.

The most comfortable and best quality shoe for a decent amount of money? by cloudiestdragonin Frugal

[–]shatteredjack 1 point2 points ago

I recently bought some from Amazon and what was interesting was that for a particular shoe, the price could be dramatically different for different colors. It seems that they sometimes discount unpopular SKUs heavily. The difference in my case was $70 for one color and $37 for the other(which was the one I wanted anyway.)

Am I a douche bag, or am I justified in wanting to break up with my girlfriend right now? by FutureRefusein AskReddit

[–]shatteredjack 0 points1 point ago

True story, summarized to get to the punchline. Friend of mine moved in with his girlfriend after high school, lived together for 5 years, finally got married and divorced 6 months later. It went something like this-

"If you didn't like me that much, why did you want to get married?"

"I thought you would change."

"I guess we're done here."

So what the relationship between a tree service, an arborist and a tree surgeon?

I have several large and mature trees that I want to preserve in good condition. I realize that a tree service is just unskilled labor for the most part; What sort of qualifications should I be looking for?

What is the point of a debate? It's not like anyone is prevented from expressing their ideas. The debate happens across the Internet every day.

Assuming one buys into your thinking, what are the implications at the personal finance level? It would seem that any consumer facing products offered by banks will likely have poor returns/low interest for the foreseeable future. Relatedly, since financing costs are low- it's a good time to accquire assets. Assuming that you stay within a manageable amount, of course.

You have commented previously on the way that the Internet has enabled discussion of financial issues among a broader community. Do you see any middle ground between the 'everyone has an opinion' world of social media and the rigor of journals with editorial boards? More to the point, I suppose- how can an interested amateur self publish a 'manifesto' (God, I hate that word) and solict discussion? Historically, the salons and cafes of Europe would develop communities to this end. Social Media seems to be centered on punditry and advocacy and the public can't participate in academia in any meaningful way. What's the appropriate way as a society to have intellectual discussions about psychohistory, for example?
