Here comes Yahoo's own Web browser -- Axis by KAPT_Kipperin TechNewsToday

[–]sgt_mustard 4 points5 points ago

If Yahoo had done this 10 years ago, they very well could be a powerhouse to contend with. Had they done this 5 years ago, they may still be relevant. Launching it now? Well, they look exactly like they currently are, desperate. I actually believe Yahoo has the potential to be a giant again (see Apple in 1997 vs 2007), but they are not showing any interest in being revolutionary. The extent of their vision currently appears to be wave after wave of layoffs and pissing off what userbase they have left.

'Soccer' vs Football. So TRUE by Cowboy_Bebopin videos

[–]sgt_mustard 2 points3 points ago

To be fair, the basic gameplay of American football was developed long before the saturation of advertising. The constant marketing evolved from the game rather than vice versa. Either way, they are just games. I will never understand why some people think they are more sophisticated or cultured over a game, both Europeans and Americans. One could easily make a video about the history of riots, trampling and crushing of spectators in European football...

In 500 years, who do you think will stand out from the past 100 or so years? by majordangerin history

[–]sgt_mustard 2 points3 points ago

There are melodies by Bach, Motzart, etc. that we are familiar with or recognize yet don't even know who composed them (obviously this doesn't apply to classical enthusiasts). I can see that happening with some of The Beatles music over time. Someone will hear a rendition or start humming Yesterday, but not even know it was a song by a rock band from the 1960's.

Hi guys. Just bought a 1995 900s convertible yesterday. It's my first Saab. Any advise/tips? I want to maintain it as best I can. by sgt_mustardin saab

Thank you. It's things like this I was looking for. You know, some heads up tips so I know what to educate myself on to keep it running in top shape.

Thanks. I'll have to get on that. I noticed they were a bit noisy when it's idling.

What generally-accepted classic albums can't you get into? by theLaikain Jazz

[–]sgt_mustard 6 points7 points ago

I can understand and appreciate where you're coming from. However, Time Out and Time Further Out seem to be really good platforms as intros to jazz. I know quite a few people who credit those albums to opening them up to the world of jazz.

The only thing owning an iPhone has taught me by lukepeacockin funny

[–]sgt_mustard -1 points0 points ago

Or you could have simply asked, "Why can't cell phone manufacturers build durable products?" Instead, you stated Apple. Typically, a reader would interpret you were signaling Apple out. I could be weird, but I wouldn't say "Why can't LG build more reliable TV's?" and mean it as a broad statement for all manufacturers of TV's.

I guess your question "Why can't Apple just build durable products?" could be interpreted as such.

So it's just the iPhone that is prone to damage? I really don't get why people complain about cell phone durability in the first place. Look at how much the average smart phone owner uses their phone daily and how seldom they freeze/lock up or other issues. I find it rather quite impressive. As far as damage and the need for a case, I spent much more for my car (obviously) than the price of a phone and it is still prone to physical and mechanical failure.

They sound like shit...tried one on a worthless 78. However, I remember reading an article that when digital media was beginning to boom and they were trying to convert/preserve rare 78 acetates it was discovered a precision sharpened rose thorn got top results. One play, one side only of course.

Construction of the Titanic by jagroanin offbeat

[–]sgt_mustard 4 points5 points ago

Not just wear either. Titanic had interior improvements over Olympic. The ornate wood work in it's First Class stair case, better carpets and such. It would seem like a lot of extra cost to add such details before sinking a ship for an insurance scam.

He was also a damn solid drummer live. You have to remember during those live shows there were no monitors and all the screams drowned out the other three, yet he kept pretty good time considering all this.

Redditors with non-American accents, how would you describe an American accent? by BlahDMoneyin AskReddit

[–]sgt_mustard 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, there's a noticeable difference just between southern and northern Wisconsin. Anywhere north of Green Bay and most people will refer to a group as "yous" (as in "Yous guys goin' to da bar?") and they call Miller beer "Millers". I'm not saying the U.P./Canadian accent is non-existent in the souther part of the state, just not as thick if you are in Milwaukee or Madison it seems.
