A part of me is like "I'll just fly into SERVICE!" Start some new meetings, get the alateen rolling in this rural area etc etc etc.

But I know I'm not ready. I just need to stop internally confirming the 1st step and write about it. That's what my dad would have done. He was in AA and NA for more than a decade before he died. I've had a deep resentment for 12 step programs my whole life because of the fact that he worked his program to an unhealthy level. But it was all that worked for him to not drink and use. And for that I'm thankful.

I've struggled with the people close to me being on drugs and alcohol for my entire life.

My true qualifier is my wife. I want something 'good' for her... So badly. But I'm focusing on myself. And it's uncomfortable and weird. And I get a great feeling from it sometimes.

I'm sure I'll find a sponsor... I know my Higher Power will provide.

I work with Medicare everday.

At a recent conference for DME suppliers, one of the executives for a large purchasing group speculated that Medicare would like stop covering nearly all Durable Medical Equipment they cover now. I.e. Walkers, Canes, Incontinence supplies, Diabetic supplies, etc.

He also said they would likely only cover Oxygen and Mobility (like wheelchairs, scooters and power wheelchairs.)

The influx of baby boomers into the system cannot be managed at Medicare's current levels of reimbursement. Especially for Home Medical Equipment.

If you get a chance to watch the video, it gives a crass and sarcastic overview of Medicare's "Competitive Bidding" scheme.

Is there a reason that I shouldn't consider finding a reasonably priced doctoral program that focuses on 'web studies'? Especially one that will be in reasonable demand when I've completed it?

If you were to recommend continuing education to a student who was almost 40, had experience as a caregiver for the disabled, and was currently supplying and repairing all types of wheelchairs and mobility devices...

What might you say?

I do love certain parts of my current work. It's damned rewarding to supply someone with a properly fitted wheelchair.

But the reimbursement from medical insurance companies (especially Medicare) is becoming a nightmare across our industry. I'm not sure that small DME companies will survive the changes over the next 5 years.

Honestly, the question was an impulsive "I wonder what reddit will say?!" moment.

I'm not dissatisfied with my ATP status. But I am interested to eventually get into more education, and preferably online.

Doctoral work when I don't even have an associates degree is a far jump. I know. But It never hurts to ask reddit...

In high schoool I had a t-shirt that said: "I am a White Anglo Saxon Male: The Cause of all Human Suffering."

Ironically it was purchased for me by a beautiful German Foreign Exchange student.

So it goes.

I'm aware that straight white males may have it better in certain areas of life, especially in the USA, but I'm not too upset about it. Life is about opportunity and taking action... Not about forced equality. How boring that would be.

It helped me feel free from obligation and manipulation.

And it helped her to live with the consequences of her own actions.

IT'S HARD AS HELL.

I'm hearing the little voice in my head saying, "get a sponsor." But the groups I've attended so far are very small, and most meetings conflict with my work schedule.

I'm considering asking someone online, maybe after a few 'online meetings'... That way I at least have an internet/telephone contact and I can start to work the steps along with another person's support.

I've just come back from my 3rd meeting. It took me a LONG time to get motivated, get over negativity and doubt, and just go.

I already feel better.

If you can learn to focus on making yourself happy in a healthy way, things will improve.

I'm committed to trying 6 meetings. 3 down, 3 to go. I think I'm going to stick with it.

If you search the web for al-anon literature you can at least read the steps and get an overview of the program.

It doesn't matter if it's al-anon. If you can find a way to start focusing on making yourself feel at peace, and happy... Things will start to turn around immediately.

It's a personality disorder. It's not like he has a choice. It's obviously unmanageable for him.

He fucking retired for christsake. He wants to be successful... He's at the top of his game. And he BAILS because he cannot get it under control.

The man needs help. Not hate.
