Don't worry about this one little bit being spoiled. There is so much shit going on in the books there are plenty of surprises and interest left.

Also, don't worry about reading the books spoiling the show. If anything it makes it more interesting to watch how they present it, and watch the horrified reactions of non-readers.

Are you having panic attacks because of the test or are you having panic attacks because you didn't study for the test and you suddenly realize you are screwed?

There is a big difference there.

It doesn't matter what kind of chemical or method of control you use, if you only use one mode of action, you will get resistance.

Multiple avenues increases the cost of selection and reduces the overall dosage needed to be effective. This approach has been used time and again in controlling diseases. There is no reason it cannot work on weeds.

I like to discuss the topic that I actively research, shocking.

You however ignore the topic and just screech at me whenever I talk about agriculture.

you never admit you ever get anything wrong

That's a bold statement. Have any evidence of that?

you ignore all evidence that does not say what you want to be true

I am willing to accept peer reviewed robust research. You just have an inability to either cite it, or on the rare occasion you do, you have a incredible knack to mischaracterize it completely.

and you quickly start with insults when your false claims are exposed -- maybe you will call me "scumbag" again now??

Annnd we are done here. I look forward to seeing your shrill voice of insanity again soon.

Would it be a problem if Fipronil could be used on cereal crops? by kemindimin askscience

[–]searine 0 points1 point ago

If used as a seed treatment, will the indirect pollination of weeds still be possible?

When planting the seed treatment will often aerosolize and could spread on the fields and to non-target plants. Alternatively it is suspected that it could leech into the local ground water.

This is still an emerging field so there is still a lot of uncertainty but I think generally broad spectrum insecticide use is a bad idea and we need to press for solutions that don't involve chemicals.

Would it be a problem if Fipronil could be used on cereal crops? by kemindimin askscience

[–]searine 1 point2 points ago

Why can't we use fipronil as a seed treatment for cereal crops?

I think neonicotinoids are prefered because they have less toxic. Fipronil is highly toxic to aquatic organisms.

Like neonicotinoids, when fipronil is used on cereal crops, they can still kill in non-target pollinators not directly through cereal pollen but through the indirect pollination of weeds within or bordering crop fields which have also taken up the chemical.

Stalking me again?

I stand by my posts. I try hard to cite scientific sources from reputable journals which are peer reviewed and base my opinion on that evidence alone.

If that gets people to stalk my posts, so be it.

you state you will not reply then you do many times

That was another thread.

Now insects resistant to Bt so more insecticides needed

When using a single mode of action resistance is inevitable. I have and continue to promote the use of sanctuaries and multiple modes of action in all biotechnology.

This is the point where I stop replying.

your behavior is not forgotten because this is a different thread -- you are nasty, insulting and childish...... not a scientist.

The irony is killing me.

searine is either liar or fool....

Or the methods are exactly what I said they were?

Monsanto and shills claimed these contaminations were not possible -- they claimed Roundup not toxic

So why are you claiming I said them?

they claimed GM ag reduced pesticide use

I have claimed it reduces insecticide use, which is true. The OP article even says so.

Do you not know Monsanto claimed increased yields??!!

Do I care?

I am not them, they are not me. I have an argument distinct from theirs.

Can you not tell the difference?

Tanzania: Superweeds Caused By GMO Are Super Problems by DonManuelin environment

[–]searine 1 point2 points ago

I really touched a nerve with you. Mutliple replies, how gauche.

GE crops have increased overall pesticide use by 318.4 million pounds over the first 13 years of commercial use, compared to the amount of pesticide likely to have been applied in the absence of HT and Btseeds.

But decreased insecticide use and replaced more harmful herbicides.

Stop lumping together different chemicals. It is simplistic and doesn't accurately represent the situation.

why do you always say you wont reply but then reply a few minutes later

That was a different thread, so glad you stalked me to this one.

why do you ignore facts of 'super weeds' and 'super insects'?? Is it because you cannot refute these things???

Never said they didn't.

New effects of Roundup on amphibians:

If you read the methods of the study, the litterally pour roundup on amphibians. It isn't a model for human toxicity.

Monsanto found guilty by France's high court of lying over its claims that Roundup herbicide was "biodegradable" and it "left the soil clean".

A good fair decision. It is also a business decisions related to advertising, so what does this have to do with genetic modification.

What Biotech Pesticides Are Doing To Our Bodies. Roundup weed killer is now turning up in rain and the air. And that has potentially devastating impacts on our health.

Organic activists find conventional ariculture to be harmful. News at 11.

Determination of glyphosate in groundwater samples using an ultrasensitive immunoassay and confirmation by on-line solid-phase extraction followed by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry. -- Roundup is getting in to water supplies

Never said it wasn't. The point is that it breaks down relatively quickly, and isn't anywhere near as long lasting or dangerous as previous herbicides.

do you mean Monsanto now abandons claim because it is proven to be false??!!

Show me where I have ever said this.

Show me.

Do it. Please.

Find a quote. I dare you.

Tanzania: Superweeds Caused By GMO Are Super Problems by DonManuelin environment

[–]searine 2 points3 points ago

We now know GMO crops have often caused more use of Roundup which is now showing evidence of damage to soil and ecosystems.

The science says otherwise.

"The data available so far provide no scientific evidence that the cultivation of the presently commercialized GM crops has caused environmental harm."

"Planting glyphosate-tolerant corn and soybean and using glyphosate in lieu of some residual herbicides (alachlor, atrazine, linuron, and metribuzin) should reduce the impact of the production of these crops on surface water quality."

"Replacing these herbicides (atrazine and alachor) with glyphosate and glufosinate can reduce the occurrence of dissolved herbicide concentrations in runoff exceeding drinking water standards."

"Effects of glyphosate on contamination of soil, water, and air are minimal, compared to some of the herbicides that they replace. No risks have been found with food or feed safety or nutritional value in products from currently available GRCs. Glyphosate-resistant crops have promoted the adoption of reduced- or no-tillage agriculture in the USA and Argentina, providing a substantial environmental benefit."

Also 'superweeds' have been created by genetic transfer from GMO crops...

You should invest in a biology course.

Report finds genetically modified crops fail to increase yields let alone solve hunger, soil erosion and chemical-use issues.

Current traits were never designed to increase yield.

They have reduced broad spectrum insecticide use by millions of tons. They have also reduced erosion. See above.

searine and other shills are lying to us about this toxic industry........

I love when I attract rabid trolls, they are hilarious. Are you going to call the askScience panelists sockpuppets again? Cause that pretty much made my month.

Tanzania: Superweeds Caused By GMO Are Super Problems by DonManuelin environment

[–]searine 2 points3 points ago

For example, each acre planted with Bt corn for corn rootworm and other soil borne insects can decrease the use of insecticide by about 0.21 pounds per acre. However, the genetically modified plants themselves introduce 0.5 to 2.5 pounds of Bt Cry proteins per acre.

Yeah, those fucking proteins are so much worse than broad spectrum insecticides!!

For the first four years of commercial use of genetically engineered crops, herbicide use decreased by about 2% (Benbrook, 2012). However since then, rates of glyphosate (in the herbicide roundup) use on corn, soybeans, and cotton have increased more than 10 per cent per year.

The point of glyphosate isn't to reduce herbicide, the point (among other benefits) is to supplant more harmful herbicides. Which it did quite well.
