The life of a sober man by FunkyM0NKin fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]sberrys 0 points1 point ago

I have nothing against drinking, I just genuinely don't like the taste of most alcohol. Even when people say "you can't taste the alcohol in this one"... I always seem to be able to.

I do drink on a rare occasion but it's only fruity drinks without much alcohol, or drinks with a small amount of vodka. I don't get the nice warm fuzzy feelings everyone talks about so there's no appeal there for me.

There is a learning disability called Dyscalculia which has symptoms that make it difficult to read an analog clock along with trouble with Mathematics and other issues. I have this and it took me forever to figure out how to read those damn things. Didn't even know about this until about a year ago and I'm 29. I scored exceptionally well in things like reading and writing in school but my math skills are TERRIBLE.

I used to be fascinated and inspired by the power of hurricanes and tornadoes. I lived in Florida most of my life so I experienced several smaller hurricanes and figured I had a pretty good handle on things. Then I lived through hurricane Katrina in Jackson, MS.

I thought we were far enough inland for it to not be a big deal, everyone there did and my husband even had to go in to work. I should have known better, we lived in a neighborhood with very large old trees all around the houses. While my husband was at work a tree branch came through the roof about a foot away from my head. I could have been killed if it came through the roof a bit deeper and a foot to the right. When this happened the storm was still raging on and would be for several more hours. I am known for being able to stay calm during emergencies but that limb coming through the roof so near my head made me so scared my hands were literally shaking. I felt like a tree was going to fall on me at any minute. My husband rushed home (I didn't have a vehicle) and before we could leave power lines fell across the driveway and we were afraid to drive over them to leave so we were effectively trapped. A couple hours later a huge oak tree fell on the house. Luckily it fell just right so that the house supported the tree and didn't cave in. It was insane to see.

When the storm ended we went outside and trees were on houses all over our neighborhood and the power was out all over the city and we later learned power was out pretty much all the way down to the coast, 160 miles. Gas was almost impossible to get, almost every store and restaurant was closed. Had to wait in line for hours and hope they didnt run out of gas or ice before your turn. Fights broke out. Probably due to the heat and stress everyone was under. It was the most terrifying experience of my life and I didn't even live on the coast. Power was out on our street for a month.

After that terrible experience I gained what I consider to be a healthy fear of hurricanes and storms. So did my dog. She was never scared of storms before Katrina but she was from that day forth. I turn the tv on loud and rub her ears so she can't hear the thunder as well to help calm her down.

TLDR If you think storm chasing is cool you probably haven't been in a situation where you felt your life was truly in jeopardy during a storm.

Complete body medical repair/cures. I have scoliosis (curved spine) and fibromyalgia (flu-like all over body pain and fatigue, both are pretty severe for me) so I'm in pain and exhausted a lot and have been since I was a teenager.

I never got to enjoy being young and energetic. I'm 29 now and pretty sure it's down hill from here. I keep putting off having kids because I'm afraid of the physical demand that will be on me. I tried going off my pain meds once to conceive before I changed my mind about it a few months later and it really wasn't pretty. I couldn't even keep up with the basic housework and just making a simple dinner was hard to find the energy to accomplish.

Nationwide Insurance.

After Katrina threw a tree on my mother-in-law's house and she was unable to deal with the insurance company on her own I had to step in and talk to them. The tree didn't collapse the house but obviously it put holes in the roof and rain came in and black mold began to grow in the house. I told the insurance company this and they had the nerve to tell me that it wasn't a big deal and that they weren't a doctor but "some mold is medicine."

YES, BLACK MOLD IN YOUR HOUSE IS TOTALLY SAFE TO LIVE WITH.

Many people seem to like math in school until they reach a concept that forever turns them off math. Which one was it for you? by GuyWithGirlNamein AskReddit

I fit almost every symptom including difficulty reading music which sucks for me because I'm going back to college in the fall as a MUSIC major who still needs to pass college algebra.

While I'm determined to push through this difficulty I still wish this learning disability was more widely known about so people like me could get more help but instead I've always been treated like I was lazy because my scores in other subjects were always great. I feel like if I had of had trouble reading instead I could have gotten a lot more help and been better off in my education.

How to get vibrato while trying to hold a note for a long time? And other general q's!!! by SarahVirginiain singing

[–]sberrys 0 points1 point ago

I have to deal with a lot of early morning phlegm too. What works best for me is to drink something hot and soothing as long before singing as you can, I usually do coffee but other hot drinks like tea could work too. Then as soon as you're done drinking the hot beverage SWITCH TO WATER to help wash out any sugars the hot drink may have had in it from your vocal cords, and drink plenty of it. Between sips of water work on some simple vocal warmups like scales until you feel like your voice is a little more awake and the phlegm is mostly gone.

People may disagree with the hot drink because hot drinks usually contain sugars and caffiene which have a negative effect on your voice, but that's what I find works for me as long as I follow it with lots of water. I hate drinking water but it truly makes a huge difference in your quality of sound if you have cleaned out anything sticky from your vocal cords with water.

I don't like performing in the morning either for this exact reason, I have terrible sinus issues. I have had to do plenty of morning performances and it's not impossible to get a decent sound in the morning if you warm up and stay away from sugary drinks. So don't let this mess with your confidence like it did mine at first. Good luck. :)

It's supposed to be a granola bar. It's made of oats and honey and stuff but crumbs get everywhere when you try to eat them. They're a tasty snack though so I keep buying them.

The mortality rate was not high because of co-sleeping, it was high because we didn't have the medicines, health care, and knowledge back then that we do now.

Not sure where you get this idea. Being overweight is irrelevant. An adult of any size could smother a baby if they rolled on top of it. Though I think you'd have to be impaired in some way to do it.

Not trying to be rude or anything but I don't understand how you can seriously think you're getting old or developing wrinkles at 23. Most people live to their 70's and 80's now - you still have literally almost your entire life ahead of you!

Wrinkles normally won't start to develop until you're in your 30's unless you have some sort of other issue that causes early aging, like smoking or excessive tanning. It reminds me of hearing my 12 year old cousins tell their mom they wanted collagen injections because they had wrinkles. 12 year olds! You're probably just over-doing things and too tired, nobody looks their best when they're in that condition. Put some tea bags on your eyes and get a good nights sleep. :)

I'm 29 and I got married at 23 but everyone told me we were way too young to get married and at our wedding his mother cried like it was a funeral (but that's a story for another time). The age at which the average person gets married varies widely by location but the average age of marriage in the US is 26 for women per wikipedia, as someone else has posted. If I were you I wouldn't feel bad about not having a serious relationship at this time. Family will always pressure you about something or other, just live your life and be happy! You'll find the right person eventually, there is still PLENTY of time.

Years back, a girl I was dating farted and felt embarrassed, I tried to make her feel better by "making it even." Then I crapped my pants. What's something you've done to un-embarrass/cheer someone that has horribly backfired. by Olwekin AskReddit
