the woman who does the voiceovers for the commercials makes me angry. that monotone half-whisper while she promotes upcoming shows makes me cringe and either turn the radio down or change the channel til its over.

IAmA River Guide by gibbsnthingsin IAmA

I went overboard in class 3 rapids and went for a nice 100 yard "swim." thankfully I paid attention in safety orientation and didn't try to stand up. eventually I remembered, "hey, I can swim over to the side!" and made my way over to the bank and hugged a rock for a few minutes while my boat caught up with me. the guide that pulled me back onto the boat was a few years younger than me and a total certified badass. kudos to you! I'm a former lifegaurd and was captain of my highschool swim team and that still scared the shit out of me.

TL:DR you guys got balls of steel.

NYC Hiking? by Pam_Beasleyin nyc

[–]sassooooo 0 points1 point ago

Google Brooklyn Outfitters. They organize trips, transportation included. Never did a trip with them but it looks pretty Legit. I know there are some nyc hiking groups that my friends have gone with on Meetup.com its free to join.

Otherwise if you're looking for a mountain close by, harriman state park should be off the metronorth railroad.

help with neck adjustment by sassoooooin banjo

[–]sassooooo[S] 0 points1 point ago

what would you use as a shim? when the action was high, and the metal piece wasn't there, the neck wasn't flush with the body; there was about a milimeter of space there. now the neck is touching the body. so i should take off that hardware, find the angle i want and place the shim in that space?

yeah, there is another screw at the other end that i could tighten to adjust the angle of the neck. you can see it here, not a great angle but you can see the top of it.

edit: that picture was taken before i inserted that piece.you can see the dowel sticking out one side, i guess it had been stuck like that for some time, who knows, maybe 50 years. this banjo is almost 100 years old haha.

if you know how to read sheet music here is a pretty comprehensive database of songs. i think there are also some videos and MIDI files throughout but im not sure if they all have one. go to Tunes on the right hand side
