Doing the Warrior Dash this weekend. What should my training regiment be for this week? by Heinz_Doofenshmirtzin running

It is really tough to go fast on the obstacles, you are mostly in a crowd for them. The running is where you make all your ground.

The real shoes to wear are your old shoes and drill drain holes in them.

Don't be to courteous to people running slowly on the left side. It is a race. Run to win.

I'm 6ft3 and 200lbs+, should I be looking for shoes with a lot of support? by InfiniteLiveZin running

[–]rocksauce 0 points1 point ago

I am similar build to you. I would suggest looking up your current model shoes to figure out what style shoes they are. If you are not having issues then you probably have the correct style shoe for you regardless of the trend. The whole reason for going minimal is to alleviate injuries.

Check out The Art of Touch. It is a laid back place in midtown. I have been a few times and it is a very relaxing experience. It is right on Piedmont park so you can go for a nice relaxing post massage stroll.

Who discovered the 90 degree rule in billiards? by Back2BagDadin billiards

[–]rocksauce 1 point2 points ago

I can't think of the name of the book im thinking of, but the word you are looking for is the tangent angle. There is a fair amount of the physics of spheres if you keep looking, but what you a looking for is just physics. The pool hall by my house has a ton of posters that show a lot of the common geometry. I have been trying to find them online lately. I will post them when I find them.

edit: you should always look at the tangent line to discover the base of where the ball will go. From then you will decide wether to use draw or follow to make the cue ball continue on a parabolic curve either towards the contact or away from it. Left and right only affect the trajectory off of a rail (if you negate the throw effect).

Just started running, and I love it. So, what am I doing wrong? by entropybluesin running

[–]rocksauce 22 points23 points ago

I've said it before and I will say it again. Your pace is too fast. YOu can continue the stop and go thing you are doing. That is pretty much interval training which is all c25k is. I would suggest slowing down and try and finish the entire jog at one pace at least once. You should be able to have a conversation at that pace. It can take a while to get your cardio capacity up, but it will happen. Running takes dedication but it is worth it. keep on pushing. left right left right

As a Gen Xer, I still find this encouraging. Young people are beginning to ditch the personal automobile. by stmbtrevin Frugal

I think it is great that the younger generation is choosing to use various forms of transportation wether they be on their own power or public. The fact is that a lot of people simply can't afford to own a vehicle. This is not a good trend to celebrate.

well those two things match. Nicer cues will have a taper so the end of the shaft is more of a cylinder compared to a house cue that is shaped more like a cone.

A lactic threshold run or tempo run is usually at a fast pace that you want to stop at, but are able to maintain for the given window your training dictates.

There are plenty of ways to figure this all out, but unless you are in not so good shape the answer to your question is, yes.

The truth about running and burning fat by thomasmagnumin Fitness

[–]rocksauce 1 point2 points ago

IF you are running 10-12 miles in the morning 3+ times a week you really shouldn't be worrying about your caloric intake that much and loosing fat right. Are you sure you are not actually starving yourself. I just personally think anyone able to bust out a near half on any given day is at a fitness level that shouldn't be concerned with weight loss strategies.

Looking to buy my first stick, no idea what I'm looking for by Hotwir3in billiards

[–]rocksauce 2 points3 points ago

I would start cheap for a few reasons. 1). You are in school and probably not sure how long you are going to stick with pool and 2). The lower price point cues are going to be stiffer regardless so there is no point in buying an expensive one. 3). The stiffer and cheaper cues are good for learning on.

Any of the cues you find at the major billiards stores online will do. I would personally avoid buying one at a random non billiards store. They will have less quality in them and having your beginner cue around later for when you have moved on to a nice stick means you can turn it into an affordable break cue. Also they will likely have a crappy tip that will suck for many reasons (life span, feel, shapability, etc)

I see you are concerned about the tip diameter. Having a wider diameter will make make shooting straight easier. The narrower tips will make it easy to to put follow/draw and left/right spin on the ball. I would personally stick with what the manufacturer makes. Most of them are a 1mm or more wider than the more expensive cues and will be likely what you will want to have in the long run.

I personally used a Cuetec sneaky pete (sneaky petes are just cues with no wrap and look just like your standard house cue). The Cuetecs are pretty solid, but I would recommend something like a Poison or Players because they have a wooden shaft. You want a wood shaft. Not carbon, not fiberglass, period. Check out ozonebilliards.com you can search for cues by price point and they have legit prices.
