what are your favourite Indie games, and why? by ChuchuCannonin truegaming

[–]rhfs 5 points6 points ago

How are they milking it? I got Cave Story+ as part of the Humble Indie Bundle and thought the music and presentation was a lot better than the original. It manages to keep the old-school feel too.

User sits next to female Redditor on bus and proceeds to say nothing for over an hour, only asking Reddit "What do I say or ask to her?" by LesterRoyalein circlebroke

[–]rhfs 3 points4 points ago

Although there may have been a point in years past where I think I would have a good chance of beings friends or whatever simply because they go on reddit, I think those days have passed. This site is fucking massive now, and as much as people love to talk about the "hivemind", but it's actually pretty diverse and continues to become more so. It's getting to the point where it might as well be, "hey, I saw someone browsing YouTube, we could be best friends".

That being said, I tend not to take the "please don't upvote this!" people seriously because I simply do not want to believe anyone is that stupid.

I love KyoAni's art style. I know some criticize it as being too generic or moeblobby but I think they have really set themselves apart for making aesthetically pleasing character designs.

Most people are fake as hell on Reddit, just like in real life by jjassonnin self

Karma doesn't help but it's not like people suddenly are any better behaved on sites without it. People want attention even if there are no imaginary internet points to be won.

Why do people dislike the Finder? by Magnusmanusin osx

[–]rhfs 1 point2 points ago

I use Path Finder and I find it extremely powerful compared to the Finder. There is a ton of customization and lots of things you can do that make it a much more comfortable and efficient experience, in my opinion. Some of the features I like that Finder doesn't have are tabs, dual panes, the pop out tray and side window interface customizations, among other things. I'm willing to sacrifice the total system integration for these features because I don't like the Finder without them.

welcome to the Northern Europe circlejerk, r/truereddit! by Willmcdougalin circlebroke

[–]rhfs 8 points9 points ago

/r/truereddit has basically become classier /r/politics. I mean, I guess it's a good thing that the articles tend to be longer and more fact oriented, but it's still the same fucking shit I see on reddit all the time. Yes, I know Mitt Romney is bad. Yes, I know Northern Europe is probably a great place to live. I don't even disagree with most of their points but I don't need to be reminded every day. Etc etc etc.

If we had /r/trueredditminuspolitics maybe things would be better.

The Welfare State wants me but they ain't gonna get me! by TheGhostOfNoLibsin EnoughPaulSpam

I have computer tech skills and she has medical/legal transcription skills but believe me when new computers can be bought for $300 and people can now speak into their computers and have a program type what they say…the skills that my wife and I possess, while helpful, don’t earn us much income.

Seriously? What kind of "skills" do you have if this is enough to run you out of a job?

Leave it to them to somehow take what was apparently a discussion about the Nazis and Marx and shift it to Ron Paul and the holy delegate strategy.

I would be kind of interested in seeing a DE vs SE comparison. I can't really see the advantage of using an SE beyond the novelty factor when the learning curve is so steep and I already get great shaves with a DE.

How much does a TV show cost to make? In an era where independent musicians and game developers are having increasing success, I wonder how difficult it would be for an independent TV studio to make a show on YouTube/Netflix/Hulu/etc.

Right when I think /r/gaming couldn't get any worse, it then leaves my speechless by IAmAWhaleSexologistin circlebroke

[–]rhfs 1 point2 points ago

You've never met a girl who hasn't played one of those games? I think you are an extreme outlier in this case. Personally, I can count the number of girls I've met in my life who actually play video games on one hand. They are hard to come by for some reason.

Right when I think /r/gaming couldn't get any worse, it then leaves my speechless by IAmAWhaleSexologistin circlebroke

[–]rhfs 7 points8 points ago

To be fair, if there were more girls playing games you would never see this kinds of posts.

Unfortunately, at this point there could be a positive feedback loop of bad gamer stereotypes (which are fueled by people like those in /r/gaming) preventing the medium from becoming more female friendly.

Reddit gets butthurt over an article that doesn't praise Nicola Tesla... by Aydarshin circlebroke

[–]rhfs 0 points1 point ago

One thing that makes me feel better about reddit is that since I've apparently come to this article late, all of the top comments are supporting a more balanced approach to the situation. Even if there were people who were raging over the fact that Tesla wasn't getting worshiped like he was in the Oatmeal, they seem to have been put in their place now.

Now if only we didn't have to wait for the reasonable comments to come out, this site could be a lot better.

Greece AMA by kuhorein ILiveIn

[–]rhfs 0 points1 point ago

If you don't mind me asking, did you vote in the recent election, and if so who for? Are you planning on voting in next month's, or do you have a favorite party?

The Greek debt crisis is really interesting for me, but for you guys I'm sure it's horrifying. Honestly I'd probably be trying to get out if I were in that situation.

Are there any Linguists, Interpreters or Translator INTPs in here? by DoesKnowHarmin INTP

[–]rhfs 0 points1 point ago

I just finished my second year of college Japanese and am going to spend a year studying in Japan starting in August. I think how my experience goes there will play a big role in affecting what kind of career I want to pursue after graduation.

And I agree with what you said about language. I differ a bit from the INTP stereotype because while I love understanding systems, I'm more interested in the social sciences than the hard sciences (though I don't dislike the hard sciences by any means). So fields like political science (my major), economics, and linguistics are especially fascinating to me. For me, there is something inherently more exciting about complex systems with actual people involved, as opposed to say, physics or chemistry.
