Looks like there is a delay on the EVO LTE pre-order shipments - May 25th now? by rejctchoirin Android

[–]redd17 0 points1 point ago

I don't think there will be a delay. They announced a press release saying phones will be in stores May 18th at 8:00am. It would be silly for a company as big as sprint to go back on their word without confirming this. Even if its a supplier issue, Sprint cannot afford to make any mistakes like this right now.

I found the right one way too soon. by threehininein relationships

[–]redd17 1 point2 points ago

My 2 cents: You're wrong. She's not the one if you feel that way. She may have been the one, but she may not be anymore. 7 years is a very long time to be with someone, and judging from your age, I'm assuming you got together with you gf when you were in your late teens. You might have done a lot of changing, maturing, etc as a person and you may have even been jealous of the life your single friends were having during that time. If she is the same age as you, then she might have changed as well.

Think long and hard about what you want. Why do you want to be with other women? Is it purely because you don't know what it's like to be with someone else? Or is it because your relationship is lacking in something?

Do you want to be in a another relationship or do you just want to date around and be single? That's something only you can answer.

As I said before, seven years a long time. Most people would be married already. A lot of people get complacent with long term relationships and the spark takes work to reignite. I think that's what you need- a re-ignition. Work on your relationship first because it sounds like you have something good. Fight for your relationship. Keep it alive, and healthy.

HTC EVO 4G LTE Available for pre order by miniman542in Android

[–]redd17 1 point2 points ago

In the fine print, they say that the pre-order period ends May 17th or until supplies last. Usually this means that the release of the phone nationally is the following day or few days. This is the same thing they did for the Galaxy Nexus when it was under pre-order.

Though I do agree with you that there was no solid shipping date mentioned anywhere... Kinda annoying.

Seriously, this is awesome. Cherish that card... because some people like me never knew their grandparents before they passed.

I have a similar situation to yours and have been searching for weeks. 1k a month is not gonna cut it. Minimum $1600 for a 1BR/1BA that might get you a decent place around 600+ sq ft.

Sprint: Should I get a Galaxy Nexus now or wait (some amount of time) for the Evo 4G LTE? by culmor30in Android

I'm in the same boat. I think I want the better camera on the EVO 4G LTE and the expandable storage. Pre-order starts next week Monday!

Nope. They are not, unfortunately. You retake them again with the same professors, which is why I'm holding onto my material so I can easily get high marks in first year.

Its not too hard if you put in the work. I'm getting a 3.85 right now, and hope to get a 4.0 for this semester so that should help.

This program is very fair in terms of exams. You will get the grade you deserve unlike a few of my undergraduate courses where no amount of studying would have prepared you. We are given tremendous support in preparation for exams ( repository of old exam material, TA and tutor led weekly reviews, and professor led review before the exam telling us what to focus on)

Every SMP is different. Most have linkages but some don't at all.

I will tell you now that the exams here are not cumulative. That may make you think they are easier but it is quite the opposite. The first semester of coursework is quite intense because we have integrated exams for 3-4 classes. This means that in one sitting, you take an exam for multiple courses. You don't know which course the question is coming from. You should just recognize it. It seems hard at first but you get used to juggling the coursework for 3-4 courses and it forces you to stay on top.

The volume of work is unreal. It comes to the point where you cannot slack. After lectures, it is often straight to the library to catch up or review material. The volume of "stuff" you need to know for each exam can be well over 300 slides on a power point but this is manageable. There are tutoring sessions and review sessions(lead by the professor) before each exam that gives you a good idea of how to focus your studying.

The pressure is intense at first. Imagine your chances of getting in riding on every exam (worth anywhere from 25 to 65%, depending on the class). You get used to it after you figured out how to study and how to do well. You develop a rhythm and if you know it works then you should be okay. You need need need a study group to survive this program, otherwise you will go insane.

We take all the same core science classes as the first year medical students. Histology, Cellular Bio, Pathology, Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Genetics, Clinical Medicine, Micro Bio, Pharmacology, etc. Med students take additional non-graded classes such as Patient Interviewing techniques, cultural and social awareness classes, etc that we do not take.

I have been told that getting more than one grade below an A- is not good sign. Acceptable GPA in the SMP to make this worthwhile should be anything above a 3.75. Pass/fail mark for each exam is set to how well the medical students do, which is historically around 65% or roughly a B-. Our class average scores are in the 80s each exam and the medical students start off around the same. However, their averages begin to drop after the first few exams though, since they only need to pass the class unlike the SMP students who need As.

I guess I'll chime in since you sound exactly like me. I am just about a month from being done with the Tufts SMP program and I came in with similar stats as you (minus a stellar MCAT) The SMP, as you said, is not meant to give you a "usable degree" but instead supposed to challenge you and prove to medical schools that you do in fact have what it takes to handle first year coursework.

I do not know much about other SMPs out there but I can give you a pretty good overview of the one at Tufts. The class size is about 120 and they all come from various backgrounds-- people that took a year off, 30-somethings, or people like me who went straight from undergrad.

My experience with this program is a love-hate relationship. I love it because I know at the end, I have proven that I can do the exact same curriculum as a first year medical student and get As in those classes. This is the strongest weapon you have in your application. What better way to show you are ready for the rigors of medical school than this? (I'll make a note here that we take exactly the same courses, taught by the same professors, as the medical school students)

The negative part of this entire thing is the amount of effort and stress it puts on you. Medical school is not hard. I graduated at my undergrad at UCSD and I felt that some of the courses were in fact easier at Tufts SOM. The hard part is that you need to do well. Every exam is an extremely stressful time because one mistake means your chances to medical school could be over. You will have to work harder than you have ever worked in your life. this is not an understatement

All in all, the program is worth the cost... which is around $30,000 for tuition alone. You get paired up with a faculty mentor, get a committee based composite rec letter, complete a thesis (laboratory or literature based) and get a degree in a year. There's a plethora of EC activities to do here to bulk up your application and you might also be happy to hear that the top 20-25% of the SMP students are offered automatic interviews to the Tufts SOM. (this essentially means your GPA needs to be above a 3.75 to get this since everybody is working their asses off)

I study on average 8-9 hours daily and take a day off once or twice a month. I spend more time in the library than in my own bed or own house. This is what it takes, and I can tell you that it will be worth it.

If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer them for you.

Anybody know of any promo codes for amazon? by TheRealHeroOfin coupons

[–]redd17 11 points12 points ago

I'm not sure if you realized this but Amazon virtually never offers any type of wide-use codes like this. If its any kind of discount, its usually per specified item only, and not a "15% off your entire shopping cart" kind of thing you would see at other smaller online merchants.

Weird question for you guys, involving testicles. Let's hope it doesn't involve cancer. by BogdanDin OneY

[–]redd17 8 points9 points ago

Is the mass softer compared to your testis? Does it not hurt to squeeze? Does it feel like a mass of worms? If you answered yes to all of the above, then it could just be a varicocele, which is a distension of the spermatic cord which just contains your vas deferens, and multiple blood vessels and nerves.

The distension is caused by a malfunction of the one-way valves found in pampiniform plexus of veins. It's kinda like seeing spider veins on the leg or thigh but instead its in your scrotum.

I would still recommend getting it checked out because you mentioned it being a testicular sized mass. That seems a bit too big to be a varicocele but size does vary since lying horizontally allows drainage of the venous plexus.

The other likely possibility is an indirect inguinal hernia, which is just some abdominal components like your intestines poking through the inguinal canal (following the route that your testes descended) and appearing in your scrotum. This should be rather noticeable even without feeling your scrotum since its usually a larger mass. This must get surgically fixed. (Usually done laparoscopically)

Either way, go see a doctor. Most physicians should be able to tell by just palpating your balls.

Atheist or Agnostic?: What's the Difference by thexavierin Freethought

[–]redd17 0 points1 point ago

If one is uncertain about something, then they cannot believe in it.

Agnosticism has somehow shifted, incorrectly, between theism and atheism when it actually is a totally different thing. I actually wish Huxley never even came up with the word so we wouldn't have people who are satisfied with "I don't know". Being satisfied with not knowing, to me, seems quite irresponsible.
